Didn't think Dombrowski would sit this out. The Red Sox have an elite offense but need some sort of stable pitching.

I always love giving up a great prospect for a guy who finally pitched over 100 innings for the first time in his 6 year major league career.

Yeah Espinoza is maybe three to four years away from the majors. I like the deal for the Red Sox and I think the Padres should have gotten more for Pomeranz.

espinoza is 18 yrs old and in single-A
its not like he's going to help anyone any time soon, and so much can happen in the 2- 3 years before he's ready

Seems like weird timing by the Padres. Pom was one of the better performing pitchers in what looks to be a weak SP trade market. There aren't really any proven aces on bad teams set to be traded. It stands to reason that Pom could have been in high demand close to the deadline.
Makes me wonder if the Padres didn't think they'd get a better offer than Espinoza or that they're concerned with something physically and wanted to deal him asap.

So what? Fourth best prospect in Boston is a blue chip top 15-20 overall prospect. Personally, I rate Espinoza higher than Devers, but it is still a steep cost for Pomeranz who has been damn good.

I don't like the deal for the Padres because they only got Esponiza and not a package around Esponiza. Pomeranz isn't a free agent til 2019 so this isn't a half year rental.
