Does Newton somehow have more class than Peyton?

Peyton was so petulant after losing the Super Bowl in 2010, but no one really called him out for it because he is football royalty.

No question there, even that broken man would have killed himself trying to pick up that fumble. When he threw the pick six to Porter, he basically died trying to make the tackle.

Uh except that EVERY sports news outlet mentioned he didn't shake hands.

You are aware he personally went to the Saints locker room after the game to congratulate Drew, correct? He didn't want to take away from Drew's moment on the field.

Which is really the epitome of class.

So much class, really.

That's the narrative. I guess Rex Grossman wanted to take away from Peyton's moment? That's silliness.

The article I linked is an example of several that were written that attempted to whitewash the behavior, not call him out like you are saying happened. In fact, the consensus was he just wants to win so bad that it is ok.

He did the same for Ray Lewis after losing in the 2012 championship. He was gracious in defeat.

the night the Saints won the Super Bowl one of the last things on my mind was if Peyton Manning congratulated Drew Brees.

I don't get why people find this kind of thing remotely interesting.

I'm not aware of that because it didn't happen.

For the record, Peyton did call Brees later in the night. Said the Saints quarterback: "Peyton's a class guy." If the man who was supposedly snubbed thinks so, that's enough for me.

The story isn't true because it is a story. Peyton did not go to the locker room. The fact that many people believe he did shows how good the white-washing was.

There are articles just like that for Cam today too.

Two big differences

1) He has a well documented history of being a perpetual bad loser
2) He craves media attention, he has openly said this his whole career. When you thrust yourself into the spotlight and make a big deal out of every minor accomplishment you make, it looks 10x worse when you act like he does when bad things happen.

To be fair, I think Manning likes media attention, too. Tightly scripted, image projecting media attention, but attention nonetheless. I mean the guy got ESPN to hand him a segment over to attack his accusers on the hgh scandal. Pretty impressive media control if you ask me.

Probably because Peyton isn't having a commercial break worth of celebrations after every first down and on every interview telling everyone how good he is. Cam does not help the cause with the level he celebrates and Peyton stays pretty quiet as far as celebrations go. If you can celebrate the way Cam does then surely you can take a loss better than that.

I agree that Manning showed poor sportsmanship after the game in his SB loss to the Saints in 2009.

But to compare him unfavorably to Can Newton is churlish.

I can't recall, did Peyton wear gold MVP cleats during the Super Bowl in 2010? The problem is that Newton rarely shows humility, which is why him melting down has been such a joy to watch.
