The Cubs fan base, outside of the Red Sox, is the worst in baseball, and probably the worst in all of sports. So yeah, there's no way that team ever deserves to win the World Series, and their 107 year streak is completely justified for that terrible fan base.

While I appreciate the passion of some of the guys in the Cubs threads here and the people from Chicago who have been through all of the losses, Cubs fans/hype annoy me for several reasons.

- Media hype gets way over the top when they get a sniff of being good. 2003 was insufferable and it will be 10x worse these days.

- I understand the WGN thing and all of that, but people who aren't from Chicago acting like they live and die with every pitch are like the guys on the soccer board who get way too melodramatic about some team from England that they have no connection with and adopted for whatever random reason.

- I guess being a Cubs fan is better than jumping on the bandwagon of a successful team, but even rooting for the loveable losers has kind of become some hip try hard thing. We get that you love your team. Stop telling us all about it.

- Wrigley and a lot of the Cubs support is about the party, not baseball, for the Lincoln Park jr vice presidents and frat stars getting drunk on Dog Style in the bleachers or rooftops.

- ETA, Maddon fits in perfectly with his cool old, hipster schtick.

Beyond stupid.

Geographical location has nothing to do with fandom. I've seen just as passionate fans outside of chicago after I moved. It's something they love, and they love watching their team succeed. To suggest that they can't cant care as much as a guy living in chicago is just down right dumb.

Doesn't sound like there is really a way to please you about other people's fandom. If you like the cubs in the dark years you're a loveable loser bandwagoner, if you like them this year, you're just jumping on a winning bandwagon.

Yep, fanbases are diverse. There are plenty of good people too. hell the people you mentioned while they might not be insanely passionate could still be good people and spend money that lines the coffers that bolsters the team.

You should probably root for them to end the drought then.

How dare fans talk about their team.

Thus argument is played out. Why do others give a shite? Is is jelousy? This argument comes up when ever a new team, in any sport, enters the fold and has a shot. I've been a cubs fan all my life through wgn. I've been to wrigley twice. I've gotten invested in them over the years and following them in ups and downs.

Bro, we can only choose between the Stros and Rangers since they're the closest. Don't you know this???

This is the most honest post here. I respect it.

Cubs are getting a lot better, and you're still free to dislike them. No need to give a long spiel about why, just don't like them.

Mets fan here so of course I don't want them to win, I'd enjoy beating them in a 7 game NLCS though

This. Red Sox fans are the worst of all time.

Why are you that worried about it? No real reason to hate on the true fans, so if you are one from the area, you do you. But you know a lot of the bandwagoners are attracted to the fact that it's one of the "cool" teams with all the mystique, pageantry, and fanfare associated with the club. We all know the Red Sox "fans" a decade ago were nauseating as well.

Just for my morbid curiosity, what is wrong with bandwagon fans?

Every team needs them. They boost attendance and revenue.

I don't watch baseball, so I can't attest to that. However, Mexico soccer fans are way worse than any baseball fanbase.

That's not the type I'm referring to. There are Cubs fans across the country, but there aren't Pittsburgh fans across the country. Both have accomplished a similar level of access over the past 20 years. You can chalk it up to WGN, but I doubt you find Braves fans outside the south (maybe a better comparison here).

Jung Ho Kang
You kind of need to get off this, man. Kang himself admitted that the slide wasn't dirty and Coghlan immediately sent his regards to Kang after the game.

Don't be that guy. It as a legal slide and unfortunately someone vital to the Pirates playoff push got injured. I'd feel the same way if Kang took out Coghlan on a double play.
