Just watched it. Dave Bliss is the worst person in sports, and that scene where he gets up and walks out of frame but keeps talking this delusional crap... he now actually BELIEVES the lies he spouted all those years ago. It's fascinating to see how the mind works. But that guy is evil. The whole line of "they are in no position to deny it" pisses me off to no end.

I'm also convinced Harvey had something to do with the murder. He may or may not have been there, but he was the inciting element. That kid is shady.

I don't want to defend Baylor in regards to the football scandal, but as for the basketball team... I think they A) handled it right and B) the accusations the movie raises against them are pretty weak and backed up by precisely zero evidence.

The school fired Bliss BEFORE the tapes even came out. Denehey's body was found on July 31st, and on August 8th, they had caught Bliss in a lie and fired him. It took them 8 days, and they didn't have what we now all believe is the key piece of evidence. They hadn't even arrested Dotson yet.

The school moved about as quickly and decisively as a school reasonably could be expected. The first moment they had any evidence Bliss paid players, they forced him to reisgn. And while not covered in the documentary, they put themselves on self-imposed sanctions that were a step away from the death penalty. The school did exactly what you would want it to do.

As for the court case, they tried to make it seem sinister when... it really wasn't. The DA thought he could get 60 years so he wouldn't offer a deal, and the defense attorneys had a mass of physical evidence which virtually ensured a conviction, so they wanted a shorter sentence. They plead guilty, and got 35 years... which is about the midpoint of what the state was asking, and pretty reasonable for a guy with no priors and pleading guilty before the court. And the DA stating he was gonna put Baylor on trial is utter bullshite. He'd be trying the case in a courthouse literally a short walk from campus. Every person on the jury would have some connection to Baylor, trying Baylor in a McLennan County court is a surefire way to lose an unloseable case. That part of the doc was utterly unconvincing.

My question is... why the hell would Dave Bliss ever agree to do this documentary?

Well, why he agreed to participate is unclear but I bet he regrets it today.

He "resigned" from his position at Southwestern Christian University.

quote:

BETHANY, Okla. – Southwestern Christian University announced today that Mr. Dave Bliss will no longer serve the University as the Head of the Men's Basketball program.

In a statement released today, University President Dr. Reggies Wenyika affirmed his commitment to seeking new leadership in a manner that is consistent with the University's beliefs, standards and policies, as a duty to our Christian heritage of providing a values-driven education, and accountability to our stakeholders and the public good.

“I accepted Coach Bliss’ resignation earlier today and our prayers and wishes are with him as he transitions," Dr. Wenyika said. "I have tasked a committee with commencing an immediate search and making a final recommendation for a new head coach to the Athletic Director and me.

"As president, I would like to reiterate the University's commitment to ensuring the success of our student athletes on and off the field or court and look forward to the next participation season with new leadership in our men's basketball program.”

Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Southwestern Christian University is a private Christian liberal-arts university located in Bethany, Okla., that offers 33 degree programs at the bachelor’s and master’s level, and 16 intercollegiate athletic programs.

Dave Bliss should be beaten

Any chance the boys were into drugs. I still can't reconcile why it happened.

Maryland boy was crazy but was it after killing his buddy

I hope the coaches that talk poorly about the coach that recorded stuff haven't heard the tapes

Rarely has there been a documentary that made my jaw drop. It's astonishing how egotistical Bliss is and how messed up Baylor is.

One thing I am curious about the documentary is why they had the rant by Bliss included in the documentary when he said he wanted it off the record. I understand that it was very revealing, relevant to the story and that POS Bliss doesn't deserve the courtesy. But was it ethical for the director/showtime to include the "of the record" segment in the documentary?

What's really amazing is all the Baylor people I know get upset and offended if you bring up this or the recent disaster

They are still oblivious to what went on. It's amazing how much your fandom can shield your eyes and ears.

It's sick

I'm ashamed to have a sibling at Baylor.

I'm ashamed Baylor is in my beloved state.

They're referring to paying for his scholarship as they did the same for dennehy's. They hooked up Harvey so Harvey owed them.

Meth makes sense

Think basically help meant they covered up him threatening the other 2 with a gun.

Maybe Harvey and Larry we're pressure and the Meth ran Carl crazy
