Why does it matter if someone defends well or poorly in an All-Star game?

nope.

it's a lot better than the "my gut feel and subjective beliefs prove this is right" argument every time
ETA: I like Lebron and think he has the talent and physical gifts to be greater than Jordan. He just doesn't have the same inner drive that Jordan did. That is what differentiates the two the most. Titles, the stat you dismiss in this debate, is a primary stat that exemplifies that.

To compete on national stage against the best and prove your worthiness on the defensive side of the ball... if you don't see why the greats seize that moment like Kobe did last night... then you are definitely in the Lebron camp and just don't fricking get it.

i hope you realize the ridiculousness of your post when you're talking about defense in an all-star game
defense
in an NBA all star game
i'd hate to see what you thought about the 1st/2nd year players after the rising stars challenge friday night

team stats when judging individual players?
You have to move beyond fantasy sports and into real sports.

fricking Great line
fricking Great line

Jordan probably wouldn’t consider that a great day, but it’s what made him great and why today’s stars cannot compare. Jordan finished last in the three-point shooting contest won by teammate Craig Hodges. But Jordan was not afraid, like LeBron James and the young stars of today, to compete, to risk so-called embarrassment. Jordan took chances to be great, and that is another element that separated him from everyone else. And he never was a good three-point shooter. Though you couldn’t tell the 1992 Trail Blazers that.

and is re-running clip where he said that if Lebron has another 6 years like this than Jordan will be forgotten.
Granted saying MJ will be forgotten is ridiculous, and it's a a huge "if", but if Lebron does this 6 more years, he will certainly be the GOAT Imo.
Will he do that? Probably not.

there are routinely stars in the 3 point contest to this day

no
i'm showing the absurdity of your statement
rasheed wallace was the best player on a pistons team that won a title. he lifted them to the title
barkley and malone never did this
is rasheed wallace a better player than barkley and/or malone?

not named Lebron James. Those that are named James Jones.

quote:Did he do it 6 times, with a two year break from the sport in between? Are you saying that because in a Jordan v. Lebron debate and a point about stats that reflect an inner will that is great enough to lift your team to unprecedented championships, that Rasheed Wallace winning a championship with the Pistons is relevant?
rasheed wallace was the best player on a pistons team that won a title. he lifted them to the title
You think you can win a debate with faulty logic like that?
You are better than that. This is weak.

we're not talking about rasheed v. jordan
we're talking about rasheed v. barkley/malone (who didn't win 1, let alone 6)

i'm using this as an example that using team stats, even with your refined view of them, to judge individuals is stupid
quote:

the faulty logic is using team stats to judge individuals. don't throw a temper tantrum b/c i showed how illogical it is

Lebron is the NBA you *insert mean funny word here*, he doesn't need invites. If Lebron wants, Lebron gets. It's not complicated. Even Wade (not afraid of competition) was urging lebron (again) to compete in something.
