im 34 and stopped following back in the late 90s... is wrestling bigger now than it was before?

I doubt wrestling has been bigger than now, it may have seemed bigger when we were younger but now WWE (always WWF to me) has more than just a few action figures. They have several magazines, television programs, etc... I think now it is more profitable than ever.
ESPN has been focused on the big 3 since inception but as TV rating lag then need to start branching out and pulling in viewers from elsewhere.

Not to mention ESPN getting into this eSPORTS craze. Now WWE is more than a sport a some kid hopped up on Monster playing Call of Duty. It's entertainment, I've got no issue with this.

Last March, when looking for an outlet to announce that he re-signed a three-year deal with WWE, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar opted not to make the reveal on the the WWE Network, the company-owned subscription video service. Instead, Lesnar and WWE officials chose a program known more for covering Peyton Manning than piledrivers.
Lesnar made his announcement on SportsCenter, ESPN's flagship news program.

Glenn Jacobs, senior coordinating producer of ESPN’s New & Next Group (a 25-30-person group that focuses on new content plays for the company), said his staff has spent a lot of time researching what ESPN viewers are paying attention to on social media. They found that ESPN viewers are very interested in WWE content. For example: Last Monday’s WWE Raw, which airs on USA Network, was the most-talked about topic among SportsCenter’s nearly 26 million Twitter followers (The ESPN researchers look at hashtags and key words). WWE content, in fact, drew three times as many as mentions as the second-most talked about topic that night?: LeBron James. Jacobs said WWE Raw has been a top five talked-about topic over the last five weeks among SportsCenter followers on Twitter and a top 10 topic for 15 straight weeks.

Because Wrestlemania >>>> everything else in sports today ... except maybe LSU baseball.

Of course not. It'll never be as big as it was back then (more people were watching Nitro and Raw combined than Monday Night Football in the fall of 98). They're about to put 100k+ in Cowboys Stadium for Wrestlemania though.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe he's their dentist too.

How many events has AT&T had 100,000 fans? I know that first game with the Giants. Maybe a concert?

The NBA all star game had something like 108k a few years ago.

That's becaues it WAS a lot bigger back then. WWE is geared more for kids now since the 18-34 demo watches the UFC instead.

ESPN has always covered wrestling in some sort of fashion. NWA used to always come on ESPN classic back in the day

thats sad if true
Just looking at this week's ratings:
Monday:
3 Hours of WWE had the most viewers / tied for highest rating
Thursday:
#8 in ratings but #1 in viewership.
You'll find similar stats for whatever week you want to choose.
Again, I'm not saying anyone has to like it but outside of the super popular things like the Super Bowl the WWE is at or near the top in ratings weekly.
