Did I miss something? Why is ESPN pushing/reporting WWE news like crazy now?

Is ESPN now a stakeholder in WWE? Everytime I go to ESPN.com or open their app, there is a WWE story or video on the front page.
What's the deal with this?

ESPN servers got Brawndo sprayed on them

They are not a stakeholder but this weekend is WWEs biggest weekend of the year and Johnathon Coachman (former WWE announcer, current sportscenter anchor) has been pushing for them to cover WWE and I guess they see some value in it

Why are they pushing politics or UFC or the personal fashion of Futbol players.

They are hitting a demo that nobody else has thought about before. They're not using storylines but discussing the individuals.
Coachman is and always been a good reporter from his days in KC.

I know WWE gets a lot of crap for the whole "being fake, grown men in tights" thing but whatever you want to say you can't say it's not successful. It routinely has the highest or one of the highest rates shows every single Monday night and has for the last 20 years. The only time it gets regularly drubbed is by MNF. It's also Wrestlemania weekend and they expect a crowd of 100,000 or so in Dallas tonight. Not to mention a who's who of celebrities that go to that thing for the last 30 years.
Eta: It makes since by both parties to get eyeballs on each other's audiences.

They have always covered Wrestlemania

It's a sport, so why wouldn't they cover it?

Yeah but Sportscenter has had weekly segments the last few months now. It's been different lately.

The "E" in ESPN stands for entertainment boys. WWE brands itself as Sports Entertainment, it goes hand in hand. It's only a little 5-7 minute hit in Jerry World, it's not that terrible.

Trying to expand their viewership by showing fake sports now. WWE is closer to Broadway shows than it is to real sports
Posted on 4/3/16 at 1:26 pm to Upperdecker
I mean they cover the WNBA

No different than the NBA rigging games.

Whether kayfabe or not, there's a major power struggle over the way that WWE is run between Shane and Vince/Stephanie.

Yes, the NBA rigged a guy with a suspect ankle winning a championship for a team in Oakland.
If the NBA is rigging games, LeBron would have 8 titles by now.

Because the further something is from actual sports, the more ESPN will cover it
