Don't know. That's another point I was going to bring up. Sitting on a story for one or two days while fact checking is one thing. This is sitting on the story for about 20 or more days. It only leads to one conclusion, They were never going to report it. I think this story is embarrassing to them because they were the major force in pushing the "girlfriend died from leukemia" storyline. It made for some very touching College Gameday segments.

The entire mass media has a vested interest in perpetuating Notre Dame's mythology. If people hate or don't believe in Notre Dame, they lose one of their go-to institutions.

ESPN ignored the USC violations, even when Yahoo! broke the news and books were written about Reggie Bush's "tarnished Heisman." There's a pattern here, people.

The popular narrative is that lies and deception and cover-ups only happen in the SEC and Big 12. Stuff like that NEVER happens at Notre Dame. They're the school of Rudy and The Gipper!

And that's the real story to me. I don't give a shite about te'os GF be aide I never cared. The story is that it was shoved down our throat for 4 months by ESPN and every other televised sports entity. Now an online blog (that newspapers and networks love to discredit) uncovers how inept they were at doing their job by doing some actual investigative reporting.

They sat on tapes of the Syracuse coach being accused of molestation for years.

Thats my point.....they NEVER have done due diligence in waiting to break a hot story.
This is correct. ESPN learned their lesson with the Les to Michigan story in 2007 and have sat on info ever since

This.

NBC is the home for Notre Dame. You telling me they couldn't do "real" work to uncover this???

Both NBC and ESPN are dirty from this, very dirty

The fact that it shapes college football is something that is causing the sport to approach professional wrestling in its authenticity. Once the playoffs come, it will be even worse.

Glad to see some of you are finally getting it.

This is what happens when you allow Make Believe to take over your sport. CFB is forever fricked now.

ESPN wants just a few schools in the running every year. You are kidding yourselves if you don't think ESPN would have a Bama vs ND MNCG EVERY YEAR if they could, regardless of if the final was 70-0.

All this extra drama is for more viewers.

They didn't uncover it last week bc that would have overshadowed the mythical game they set up. You know, the one where a shitty ND team could actually compete with the SEC Champ (who conveniently rigged other team's schedules to get them into the SECCG).

That too would make for a great story in make believe land, but they would never cover that as well.

Why would ESPN care about screwing a Tier 2 school? They wouldn't. Look at how they treated LSU in 2003, 2007 (that story) and 2011.

You people are blind if you can't see the agenda. It is right in front of you.

Start saving your $$$ folks. CFB is becoming a sham right before your very eyes, just as I predicted. I hate what ESPN has done to the sport. Just hate it.

As it relates to college football, ESPN reporters broke the Cam Newton story... Pete Thamel piggie-backed onto to it, but Forde (with ESPN at the time), Slabaugh, and Lowe wrote the innitial pay-for-play article.

And it wasn't like Deadspin did any actual hard investigating. A simple Google/Nexis search is basically all they did. ESPN is full of shite.

ESPN was in too deep, and they hoped that the truth would never come out.

What motivation did ESPN have for sitting on the story as long as they did?

it could be many things that led to them to sit on it.

Perhaps they want Notre Dame to join the ACC, a conference they own the rights to, and didn't want to upset the Domers.

Or maybe they didn't want to expose their incompetence after pushing the dead girlfriend story so hard.

But you're Auburn, not Bama, USC, Longhorn Network, Michigan, or Notre Dame.

That story fits the narrative. The Te'o story does not. Everybody in the SEC cheats, but Notre Dame is a "hallowed institution" for football.
