Talking about a lunch convo with an exec on Monday basically saying they had the story but they were sitting on it to button down the final details.

Deadspin just beat them to the finish.

ESPN would not have broken this story. They shape the entire landscape of college football with their narrative. I used to not feel this way, but the last two years have made this obvious to me. They pushed hard to get Bama in the 2011 title game, and they pushed hard to get Manti the Heisman. They built up this average to good football player into being the most decorated player in college football history.

ESPN was in too deep, and they hoped that the truth would never come out.

supposedly they were waiting to get a sit down interview with Te'o before reporting it.

They didn't do that when they accused Mickey Loomis of wiretapping the Superdome.

I'm more referring to how apparently ESPN knew about this for some time, possibly before the title game. And they sat on it.

Wondering if the "oh we were fact checking" line were just hoping it blew over.

Just like how ND hoped it did when they found out.

They have a ton of "breaking news" that's regurgitated from Yahoo, deadspin, etc.

ESPN still gets the TV ratings but Deadspin takes the heat if anything goes wrong

Then why the frick did they run the story again right before the game if they had reason to believe that it was bullshite?

Thats my point.....they NEVER have done due diligence in waiting to break a hot story.

Not holding that against them, part of that is the nature of modern media.

But the story that is getting swept under the rug is who in the media had to have known and didn't cover it/the lack of fact checking initally

That story drop screams DC by ESPN.

If ESPN broke this prior to the game, the line would've mirrored the actual final score. It definitely wouldn't have been taken seriously.

What is the last "story" ESPN broke? They wouldn't break a story like this about Notre Dame. That's for damn sure.

What motivation did ESPN have for sitting on the story as long as they did?

If your "ESPN manipulates college football" argument is right, why would they care about the story after the NC? Te'o is leaving, they had no reason to protect him.

The sooner that people realize that ESPN is a joke and not a news organization, the better.

The fact that it shapes college football is something that is causing the sport to approach professional wrestling in its authenticity. Once the playoffs come, it will be even worse.

ESPN was been embarrassed by Deadspin beating them to the punch for years now.

ESPN is in bed with these university's

they pick and choose who to report on and who to go after

If this situation has made that perfectly clear to everyone well good luck making it in this world

They ran the same story before the NCG. Did they EVER attempt to talk to anyone who may have known this women???

anyone at Stanford, where she was supposedly a athlete and student get contacted by ESPN???

To be fair, the exec was the one talking about the story.

Not Cowherd.

Cowherd said that it was the exec that gave him the heads up.
