How is NJ's situation better than Utah'a current outlook? Seems like they're still lacking plenty of pieces

They need a scoring wing. They need someone like Melo.

I wonder if this trade would have even went down if the Mav's had accepted that deal for Harris.

Well considering the Nets wouldn't have had a point guard to give Utah in the deal, no it wouldn't have.

I'm hoping the mavs are trying to parlay the Butler piece into Tayshaun Prince. Much bigger need than Devin IMO.

Allows Marion to get back to his pre-butler injury minutes, and mitigates the reliance on Peja.

I guess the only way for the East to try to beat the West is to take all their stars.

Amare
Melo
Williams

Yea Prince would be a better addition, but Devin Harris would be better than getting nothing for Butler's contract.

oh. hell, they'd been dangling Favors as part of the package for Melo for months, so I'm not sure why that's a surprise.

So here is the big question....

Who will the Nets get to go along with D Williams? He won't resign if it is just him

Probably will have to trade for someone, but it doesn't necessarily have to be another star player. They just need to build a good team around him and Lopez.

I agree, but won't he just end up signing with the Knicks

who knows? Zach Randolph? they'd have put themselves in a lot better position if they didn't go blowing money on Travis Outlaw, Farmar, etc after they struck out in FA this summer. I understand signing a few of those guys, but I'd have done it on shorter contracts if I were them.

even still, they'll have some cap room to do something. let's see who wants their money.
