So 208 home runs for chipper, and around 312 more rbi's, but Jeter had a higher average and 739 more hits. 739!

And let's not forget the defensive position. That plays a part in the equation.

Im right there with you man. Do your work. Baseball needs a rethinking of how much east coast players were/are put on the pedestal historically.

Lmfao at anyone who thinks Derek Jeter is overrated. 5 time world champ 3,000 hits and a .310 lifetime avg. he's the only player in history with this kind of resume that's ever been accused if being overrated. This is a narrative created by media and fan hate of the Yankees and is now regurgitated by ignorant morons. And the only thing media or baseball pundits accuse him of being overrated about is his range at shortstop, it has absolutely nothing to do with his offense or glove. Find another shortstop with this resume and get back to me.

Could you be more vague? Alltime shortstop alltime post season alltime period? He's 6th alltime in hits let that sink in for a second. There's not another athlete in the history of sports who's 6th on any statistical list of that magnitude that's labeled overrated.

I think the question was pretty clear. Seems you are the one who is throwing qualifiers around.

I never said he was "overrated" as a SS. I just dont think he is a top player all time. He isnt even in the top 80 all time in WAR.

Many of you keep saying he is in the "inner circle" historically but refuse to mention where he falls amongst the all time greats so we cam have a real discussion.

Doesn't mean shite. Don Mattingly bro.

It's nice for a just above average player to play on juggernauts..

Vs. a great player to play on dogshite teams.

NBA, Tennis, Golf and the NFL QB are the only things you can talk rings about..

Because they are the only ones who can influence everything...

1 guy

So it doesn't matter what Jeter won. He's not Jordan, Magic, Bird, Agassi, Tiger, Fed, Brady, Teen Wolf.

Are you calling a guy who hit .310 and had over 3,400 hits above average? Ok then

Yes. I think everyone is calling that above average and HOF worthy at some point.

Most rational folks are not going to argue that he is a HOF at this point. Most are arguing this seemingly surreal need to treat this guy like he sits right behind babe ruth on the all-time greatest player list.

He's 5 points above the avg HOF SS WAR! (Jeter 71.8. Avg HOF SS 66.7). Nobody is saying he's the best player of all time I've never once heard anyone say that what ppl are saying an you've agreed with is he's overrated. You can say I'm using qualifiers all you want but you're the one changing the argument and altering the language to fit your agenda. He's one of the greatest Yankees which is what the OP was about and he's one of the greatest shortstops ever, he's problly the best representative of a franchise and top 3 team guys of all time. But nobody is saying he's equal to Ruth the way you're claiming they are.

Maybe the worst excuse for a counterpoint in history. I love Mattingly but his career peak lasted about 4 years and you putting him over Jeter just let's ppl know to just ignore your argument. Hey what about Kevin Maas amarite? Btw people who say "winning don't mean shite" are losers.

Inner circle means all time Yankees. So since you don't know what we are talking about I dunno if I should even answer the question but among Yankees he's probly 5th all time.
1. Babe
2. The Mick
3. The Iron Horse
4. Joltin Joe
5. The Captain

If you admit that he is a fringe top 100 MLB player all time then all these arguments would go away.

That's up to you. I agree that he is a top 150 mlb player. Can you accept that he is in the 80-150 area?

Lmfao you don't get to set the parameters of the discussion to fit you opinion. Why is it on this board that the ppl who have the facts in their corner always have the burden of proof while the hot takes use opinions and don't seem to have to prove anything? I asked for someone to provide a SS with a better resume and all you've given are selective stats and opinions.
