With all of the flashy and wide open offenses in college football, the defenses are still what win championships. 4 of the top 6 yards per play defenses made the playoff.

1. Alabama - 3.94
3. Ohio State - 4.24
4. Washington - 4.57
6. Clemson - 4.61

As a comparison, the top 5 yards per play offenses are...
1. Western Kentucky
2. Louisiana Tech
3. Oklahoma
4. Louisville
5. South Florida

All of those teams have very good/great offenses except for Ohio State.

Defense and a QB that can extend plays and convert third downs when the pass protection breaks down.

Another argument in your favor is the AAC Championship Game from yesterday. Coming into the AAC Championship Game, Navy had led the country in scoring offense in November averaging 52.8 points per game. while Temple led the country in scoring defense in November allowing only 3.3 points per game. Temple ended up thrashing Navy in the AAC Championship Game 34-10.

This will mean NOTHING come January..... The thing in YOUR favor is that the refs will give OSU all the calls hoping for A OSU/ Bama Title game......

Their defense played a major role in them winning a national championship. They held a great Oregon offense to only 19 points and held Alabama's offense to something like 50 yards of total offense in the second half which allowed them to come back and win that game.

Their run defense was one of the best in the country. The secondary was garbage but Fairley was enough of a force as a pass rusher to keep them from getting too far out of games

That Auburn team still amazes me how having 1 guy on each side of the ball dominate the way they did, covered a lot of problems.
