He owes me a "Domingo ate your baby" gif or meme.

It is encouraging to see both of his hits have been to right field.

Wanna know how good he is? It's 7:25 am on the West Coast, and he's on base RIGHT frickING NOW.

Ryno insinuated he's really not very good.

It's time to start thinking of replacing Marwin with Kemp

I'll take that back. Give him a little more time and then he can be up next year.

Kemp is getting a lot of PT in center field now. If we keep him, he's the true leadoff hitter we need. It shouldn't be Springer, and it really isn't Altuve.

uh…not quite. his major tool is a slap hitter and OBP guy. I'm not sure he's proven to be an adequate ML CF yet. if he does to the astrros satisfaction, then I'm all for him being brought up. I think 2b is his real position and we have altuve. I would be fine with them calling him up if Tuve goes on the DL but I really think they would just bring up Villar.

Why? Is it simply because you think he has too much power and should be in more of a run producing spot?

Yes, he has become our most complete hitter. I want him batting further down the line.

Eventually, Springer bats 3rd or 4th, directly behind Correa.

That's why I love Kemp. I believe he is an OBP monster, and I want him setting the table for our young stars. I want him annoying the shite out of pitchers, distracting them from the All-Stars at the plate.

Kemp seems like a David Eckstein type hitter. No power but frustrates the hell out of other teams because he works counts and never strikes out, and gets lots of hits. I absolutely hated watching Eckstein hit against us because of that

Bingo.

Looking ahead past this season. Let's say our outfield ends up having Santana in it a lot. Jake remains in the OF rotation. Tucker bounces between LF and 1B. Carter and Gattis stick around. Altuve keeps on hacking away. Our catchers are our catchers at the plate. I don't think Valbuena stays because Jed will play 3B. Villar will get every chance to be the super utility man though.

That's a whole lot of guys who just want to take big cuts and not a ton of patience. Kemp could balance that out a bit as a leadoff man.

If Kemp was guaranteed to duplicate his minor league production or at least very close to it in terms of OBP and average then I would be fine with trading Altuve and plugging in Kemp. But there are no guarantees.

Of course, but they need to give him a chance. He doesn't need any more time in the minors. He's ready to be the big leaguer he is going to be. Let's see it.

Depending on how Santana performs in this extended stay there should be an OF spot for Kemp to compete for next year. I don't think Rasmus will be back. If you lock Tucker into LF and Springer into RF (or CF if Santana is playing) then still leaves a spot for Kemp, Santana and Jake to fight over. All three are very different players and having those 5 outfielders on the roster next year would give them a ton of options. Plus Kemp can play some 2B to give Altuve a break or if he gets hurt.

Long term though if they're dealing Altuve then Bregman is filling that spot, so I think Kemp's main position going forward will be CF or LF

Where will he get ABs after two weeks is up and Altuve is back? He needs to be playing every day.

Here is how I think about him…he should be a very attractive piece for a team looking to trade a Veteran pitcher. We have depth and quality in the organization at the position with altuve and Bregman, fontana, Moon. You deal from your depth.

I don't see a roster with both him and Altuve on it longer term.

He has been playing just as much OF as 2B in AAA I'm pretty sure

I've thought about that. I don't buy Jake sticking it out long-term. The more I watch him, the more I hate his plate approach and feel. It's more than just a slump.

I think Domingo has a chance while Springer and Tucker also stay. Kemp can be the 4th OF who plays a majority of the games in either LF, CF or an occasion 2B start while Tucker prepares to play 1B in a semi-platoon with Carter next year.

If Santana is a keeper, he plays RF so Springer moves to CF. And the value of Jake's range in CF drops a bit for us since MMP's dimensions are going to shrink.
