Scott Feldman vs. Chase Anderson

Pitching needs to get back on track. Hello old friends.

Down on the farm:
Fresno lost on a Marc Krauss walk off, Musgrove pitched 5 shutout innings for Corpus in a 2-0 win (Fisher 2-4, Bregman 1-4), Lancaster lost 4-3 (Akeem Bostick and Dean Deetz pitched well) and Quad Cities got routed (Daz 0-3 2BB, baby Tuck 1-4, BB)

I truly hope that our pitchers can actually start getting people out. I know the games were cold and everything but that usually favors pitchers and it looked like we were using single A guys with the exception of Dallas and Luke.

White, on the other hand, has been every bit as good as we thought he would be and then some!

Before the season I said that I was concerned with starters 3-5. Now I'm concerned with 2-5. Not going to get too upset over it YET.

Cold games had nothing to do with it...these guys ducked in the spring too. There is no excuse for the organization to go into this season with the starting rotation they have. In our division with the offenses in TX and Seattle these guys will get smashed routinely.

This was odd for me to read.

Seattle has some good mashers.

The Astros needed to improve the rotation; but anything other than a #5 starter FA costs real money (see Zimmerman, Kennedy and the price those #3s went for).

And that us the problem. They have a team that can win it all but they refuse to spend on pitching. No excuse for that.

Or real prospects, which I think is Luhnow's plan.

Guys we have a disturbing trend that doesn't have anything to do with pitching.

Correa is now only on pace for 162 bombs this year, down from 243. That's a 50% drop in ONE day!

Haha no one corrected me on doing the math backwards here.

I would say mid May at the earliest unless some serious injuries happen

Luhnow has shown he's willing to call pitchers up straight from AA but we would have to be in serious pitching trouble or he would have to repeat LMJ's AA performance from last year to get a call before July IMO

Like McCullers, Musgrove has not thrown a lot of innings in the minors. Unlike Lance, Musgrove has had injury issues as a pro.

I think they want to keep him in Corpus as long as possible this season, throwing in tandem to keep his innings down. The longer they wait to call him up, the more he can pitch when he does get to Houston.

The big plus with Musgrove is he's a strike-throwing machine who gets tons of ground balls. He is not racking up high-stress innings. Last night, he needed just 54 pitches in 5 innings (threw 43 strikes!). Out of 15 outs, only two came from something other than Ks/ground balls. He may be right-handed tBeard if we're really lucky.
