Saw that we won't be able to sign a free agent for over $300,000 for the next 2 years since we signed him. Does that start after this year or does it include this year? If it doesn't include this year they need to make a run at some other big name int'l prospects and go all out like the Cubs and St. Louis does

International free agents....MLB free agents are fair game.

I could see Moran getting the call if Valbuena really struggles. Otherwise next year definitely. This Sierra signing is interesting

What is the time table on Our Big Name Minor League Guys?

High minors only...

Moran - On roster before end of this season. 2017 starting 3B.

Reed - On roster by mid-season. 2017 starting 1B (tKing and Reed share DH and 1B)

Singleton - Starting 2017 1B for Phillies/Brewers/somebody not good

Bregman - If Moran stays on track, he's our best/most likely trade chip. Most see him in the majors by mid-2017.

Hoyt - Likely up this season. Key setup man in 2017.

Feliz - Needs to develop as a could-be MOR starter. If not, set up man potential.

Musgrove - Starting rotation some time in 2017

Martes - Could follow behind Musgrove or even beat him to the majors if his changeup develops like we saw McCullers (similar pitcher).

Fisher - If he gets to AAA relatively soon this year, he can be a factor in the 2017 outfield (Gomez and Rasmus are free agents).

I like Gomez in the lineup just to watch him literally swing out of his helmet.

Cameron and Tucker I would think the absolute earliest is mid year 2018 and that's only if they rocket through the minors and become top 10 in MLB type prospects

I'm talking about the international free agent pool, I know that the MLB free agency has no connection.
quote:

m has reached pack with Sierra for $3.5 million. The deal will be made official on July 2. The contract is an international free agent minor league deal. Houston's bonus pool this year is $2.1 million for international free agents. As a result, the Astros will have to pay 100 percent overage tax on the contract -- in the end result in Houston paying $7 million for Sierra's services. The team also cannot sign another international free agent for over $300 thousand for two years.
my question is when does the 2 years start.

Anyone notice that the Valbuena bat flip now seems involuntary?

At first it was funny to see for bloop singles but yeah he's been pimping groundouts lately

ETA: doesn't make it less funny

Appreciate the Link TrapperJohn, been browsing it since you posted it.

Hypothetical.. Future infield lineup next year

1st base/DH- White/Reed
2nd- Tuve
ss- Correa
3rd- Morran or maybe Bregman?

Seems like if Morran is legit, Valbuena and Bregman will get dealt. Hopefully Bregman could be turned into a legit starter...?

Valbuena will be a free agent after this season. If Moran is legit, I could see them try to make Bregman a left fielder or something if they don't trade him. That's probably the only other place he could play, and I'm not entirely sure he could.

If we're in contention, as we should be, I can see Bregman being part of a package to pick up a quality starting pitcher.

It's a pretty good predicament we may be in over the next couple years. Having to trade young talent because there's already young talent starting in front of them.

Bergman is good as gone in my mind. Hopefully he lights up AA and lands a big time pitcher in return.

If we don't deal him to get a No. 1 or No. 2 starter, I am keeping an eye on Devin Mesoraco, the Reds catcher.

We have a few guys like Tucker in the minors-all bat and little value defensively. Is Fisher the next LF if Tucker gets traded in the future? If Tucker and Bregman keep on keeping on, they could bring a shiny piece in return.

I like him, but he can't stay on the field due to injuries
