Face reality..we won't resign springer and tucker is the only legit OF prospect anywhere close to making an impact. And don't give me Fisher.

Brownie

Was listening to him call the game on the radio. There's no replacing Brownie.

Man, imagine the buzz around this city and this team if we were to make the Quintana trade before opening day. Would be so much fun

I think it's pretty clear Tucker is the deal breaker for Luhnow as well

I'll tell ya...I go back and forth on Quintana. Martes and Tucker plus more is a hell of a prospect package. That gets you an ace or other high level player. I don't feel like Quintana is a frontline starter or the ace of a staff. I don't know that its like trading for a Randy Johnson, Sabathia or Grienke and getting your ace, a guy that you feel confident can shutdown your opponent every round of the playoffs. I kind of like Archer as that guy. But at the same time...

200.0IP 3.51ERA
200.1IP 3.32ERA
206.1IP 3.36ERA
208.0IP 3.20ERA

2017: 28 yo $7MM salary
2018: 29 yo $8.85MM
2019: 30 yo $10.5MM team option/ $1MM buyout
2020: 31 yo $11.5MM team option/ $1MM buyout

Total cost of $17.85 million if we kept him for 17 and 18 and then bought out of his contract. $37.85 million if we kept him all 4 remaining years. For a guy with his track record...that's robbery.

Quintana is a really really solid and reliable pitcher. He without a doubt improves the team. That prospect package could typically buy you an ace who's an impending free agent or has 1 year left on his deal. For Quintana it gets you a solid rotation boost/innings eater affordably controlled for 3-4 more years. Its a fair ask on the Sox part.

Lets just play a hypothetical here and say LMJ doesnt get hurt and can pitch like the FOR starter he looked like for June and July last year. We trade for quintana.

Our rotation looks like this

LMJ
Quintana
Keuchel
Musgrove
Morton/McHugh

That rotation looks very good for a LONG time.

I see Quintana as a solid #2 starter.

Lance won't be a true ace until he develops his change where he feels more comfortable throwing it. I don't recall any two pitch aces.

Hell, he needs to be able to consistently spot his fastball first.

I'm just spitballing here, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Bregman will be back on Friday. Joining the WBC was a fricking mistake. 4 at bats in 2 weeks. Leyland is a tool. Ya I'm salty.

Johnson and Ryan had a third pitch that they used significantly more than lance does.

Ryan had a nasty change the second half of his career. Now it was still 90mph. But his fb was 98

I assume they will stream the games on the Directv app/website and the Uverse equivalents.

Obviously, in hindsight Bregman should've played for Israel. They needed bats and he could've gotten a ton of quality ABs.

Still glad he'll be in orange on opening day.
