Gattis says he's lost about 18 pounds. That being said he's gone from around 260 to 240 so he's still a large man
On Fister, he was good for several seasons but underwhelmed last year. He's never been a flame thrower by any means but he's aging (he'll be 32 next season) and last year his already weak fastball hovered around 86-88. Word is he could be looking for a 2 year $22 million kind of deal. While I'd agree his upside is better than that of Feldman, I wonder if a Fister signing would largely be duplicating Scott Feldman given the age, injury concerns and declining abilities.

Probably so, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. We need the depth IMO

Depends. I don't know enough about the depth of other teams to do a true comparison but I think depth beyond your 5th starter on most teams is the same as what we've got. Fringe major leaguers/AAAA and prospects. If we pencil in Feldman as our 5th starter, then behind him you can line up
Dan Straily (whos out of options)
Brad Peacock
Asher Wojo
Those guys at best are probably no better than 5's anyway. Our best pitching prospects aren't really at AAA yet so for the sake of this discussion, we'll leave those out for now. So if you sign Fister, he's no doubt the guy that gets the 5 spot and Feldman gets bumped to the bullpen. That gives us a $10 million bullpen arm with no other role he can fill beyond long relief. I won't argue that Fister might give you the upside of 2011-13 but its a risk. If Feldman can stay healthy (big if) he can give you somewhere between 3.75 and 4.00 which is solid from a 5. I wouldn't bitch if we sign Fister, I just don't know if he's necessary with Feldman on the roster.

I think you'll see us use 6 starters more than other clubs to stretch McCullers out, and that's without injuries. Feldman's deal is up after this year so assuming you give Fister 2 years there's very little money being spent long term.
I think it's a good fallback option honestly, having to use Peacock (who I think is the best out of the 3 you named) for an extended run in the rotation would be pretty scary to me. I guess it depends on how confident they are that someone like Musgrove could come up and throw well this year.

My 19 year old is trying to convince me that he needs a motorcycle. Yeah... ummm no.

A&M baws
Can't post on the Aggie board and I try to avoid the SECR cesspool, but got a buddy that used to play for the Ags and told me this morning that Stubblefield won't be returning this season for the baseball team. Figured y'all might be interested

There have been rumors flying that a pitcher is getting kicked off, I hadn't done digging to see who it was. If it's him that's a huge blow. He's our Friday starter.

Not bad. Great depth (injuries are inevitable)
Him and Feldman off the books after this season too

Nice stopgap/depth signing.
I like it.

good depth addition + we have some promising young guys in AAA/AA. That'll do

This is a fantastic signing. Seemed like a no-brainer all along, but it's great that Fister sees the opportunity to bounce back with a contender.

I like this deal. If he regains his old form he can slot right alongside Jabroni. If he's just okay he can still be a swing man type like Feldman

Also means no Gallardo much to the DAT's joy
Still think we've got some MLB ready guys like tony kemp that we unfortunately don't have much room for that we could use in a trade, but I suspect we're pretty much done making moves? Think we need 1 more lefty out of the pen

He should battle with straily and peacock for the 7th starter position.

You say such intelligent things sometimes.

I bet we will sign someone to a minor league deal or non roster invite to compete for the other lefty spot. Hopefully it wasn't Wandy
Besides that I think they're probably done and I would be fine with that.

My parents used to live in the DR and I would visit often. It's only news when someone doesn't die on the roads there. Which is never. Worst drivers I've ever seen.
