Lol, completely sums up Marino's career. A once-in-a-generation talent who never cared about anything but individual stats.

Good to know the loser is ok with not making it to the top.

Never took you for a troll.

Why is this thread still going on? You're an idiot if you would rather have a superbowl ring than be in the HOF.

I'm pleasantly surprised this didn't turn into yet another Brady vs. Peyton thread.

SB Ring = ultimate accomplishment of a team, takes into account quality of players, production from players, health, and a little bit of luck
You play to win, not accumulate impressive statistics. That is the object of the game. Winning the Super Bowl is achieving the ultimate goal. Accumulating impressive statistics is but a sideshow.

Why isn't Fran Tarkenton mentioned in the same breath as Johnny Unitas? Tarkenton held every passing record when he retired. Dan Marino is just a more modern Fran Tarkenton who played in a more passing friendly era.

I'd take being in the HOF, personally, but it would suck to not have a ring.
It's a fine consolation prize.

Those individual accolades put more money in the bank.

But HOF is a better measure of an individual players value than Super Bowl victories. Trent Dilfer has the same number of rings as Drew Brees.

SB victories have a place, but only under certain circumstances. Its valid in the discussion of Brady vs Manning because both QBs played on some of the best teams in the last 10-15 years. The fact that Manning shite the bed many times in the post season is a very valid point.

Tedy Bruschi shot back that a ring is the greater accomplishment

Well Bruschi doesnt know what the hell he's talking about. It is immensely more difficult to make it to the HOF.

I mean Bruschi really sounds like such a pussy idiot. There are 53 players that get a super bowl ring every year. Some of those 53 players arent even very good professionally speaking. To even compare that to making the HOF is asinine

Exactly. Should Ryan Allen (Pat's punter) be prouder of his accomplishment than Dan Marino's career that was greatness?

They give out LOTS of SB rings.

Some are even for sale at pawn shops.

Not many guys make the HoF.

HoF > SB

Hall of fame = Individual achievement
Super Bowl Ring = Team achievement

Dan gets it.

it's not even close, really. you could be a backup and get a ring. backups don't get a bust in canton.

Justin Vincent cared so much about his SB ring as a practice squad player that he let it get stolen.

So if you had the choice to have Dan Marino's career or Rohan Davey, you're going with Davey?

Or lets compare Bruschi since he is the fairy in this story. Who gets viewed better/which career would you choose. The "Teddy Bear" Bruschi or Lawrence L.T Taylor

I'm fine with this. Marino is right. He'd always be remembered more for his personal play than a sb win.
