HOF career > Superbowl ring

You can't control what team you're on.

of course a ring is important.. i mean it is what you play for. But that is a TEAM accomplishment, nothing one player can do about it. The hall of fame is an individual accomplishmeny, which means you are one of the greatest individuals to ever play the game. I wouldnt trade the hall of fame either. Countless nobodies have superbowl rings, only special individuals get in the HoF

the Dolphins got eliminated a few times by the Bills in the playoffs in the early 90's.

i remember one year Bobby Humphrey was the starting RB for the Dolphins when they lost up in Buffalo for the AFC Championship.

oh, on the other side Buffalo just happened to have Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, and Thurman Thomas. All in the HOF.

Marino's WR's Clayton and Duper were way past their prime by then. Shoot, I think that was Duper's last year.

Marino was a great QB but he also was fortunate to play for Don Shula too.

I'm sure he'd rather have the career of Doug Williams, Mark Rypien, Brad Johnson, Jeff Hostetler or Trent Dilfer.

Key phrase: "At a Pro Football Hall of Fame function..."
Called Gold Jacket Great Day and organized by the HoF.

While wearing his gold jacket nonetheless, he should say, "Yes. I'd trade this damn blazer for a ring."

C'mon, man! He was such a competitor that you know he'd give anything for a super bowl win.

Let's not make it like he didn't care about winning. He was asked a question, which he probably is tired of answering, and he gave a one word answer.

Exactly. A lot of long snappers and nickel backs have rings, but they won't sniff the HoF.

And you'll never see one of those gold jackets for sale on eBay, either.

I think his answer would be the same at Outback Steakhouse on Super Bowl Sunday.

He has every right, it's not his fault lazy arse Shula expected him to carry the entire team his whole career. And i don't even want to talk about Tom fricking Olivadotti.

HOF is much more important. It shows you were one of the best to ever play the position. (One of the many reasons Eli shouldn't get in.) Super Bowl just shows you were on the best team for one season - and even that's debatable.

Pose the question to any young QB - HOF career or Super Bowl win - and I think the strong majority would say HOF career.

Those aren't the same things and I disagree with both of them.

Winning the superbowl should be the most important goal of any athlete. It says something about the athlete who doesn't agree with that.

Getting inducted into the hall of fame is the greater accomplishment. It's much more elite.

If he was a so-so QB with a SB and he'll be forgotten. No one ever talks about Trent Dilfer except to make idiots who judge QB's by Super Bowl rings realize how ridiculous they sound.

Excellent post.

More players have rings than have jackets. Jackets are harder to get; therefore, they are a better accomplishment.

You know how many no name back ups have Super Bowl rings? Many. You know how many Hall of Famers there are? Few.
