I actually think they'll finish in last place.

I went back and looked and profootballfocus actually ranked the Bengals line second last year. Didn't think it was that strong. Dolphins were 21st

Andrew Whitworth is one of the best offensive lineman in the game.

You gotta pay the guy.

Even though he is slightly above average at best, 10-15 ranked guy IMO

Arent better options out there.

Out of context, it looks like "too much"
And that's the bottom line.

Well, yeah, I don't approve of that. I just like the way he plays the game.

He's above average, but he's getting paid 19.2mil/yr. With the salary cap at 133mil, that would equate to 14.4% of the cap. Assuming the cap goes up to 140mil next year when it starts (It did jump 10mil this pat year, so why not), it'd equate to 13.7% of the cap.

In 2011, the salary cap was about 120mil, and a qb of his caliber's pay was around 16mil. which would equate to 13.3% of the cap.

By hard #'s, he's getting overpaid. By cap%, he's right about where he should be.

What would you rather have? Andy Dalton at 20/year

Or

Tannehill at I don't know guess 10/year (current rookie contract is 3/year) with 10/year left over to put people around him?

I would take Tannehill in this scenario but this is the wrong question to ask IMO. Tannehill is not available right now and wouldn't have been when the time came to deal with Dalton's contract.

The question should be what could the Bengals have done instead of paying Dalton all this money. Like someone else said, you could draft a QB next spring, franchise tag Dalton and try to groom the rookie for a year.

Maybe that will work but maybe not. It's a gamble. The Bengals chose to pay to go with a known quantity in Dalton. Yeah he's only slightly above average but you can win in this league with a slightly above average QB.

My question would be how this affects their salary cap.

I'm fine with paying him, his potential is there, but he has to start producing playoff wins quickly. They have assembled a good team around him and it's time to step up.

Horrible move!!!!

Not even a top 25 quarterback in the league. Rest of the team is solid and a joke at qb.

Name the 24 better? I suspect from your :headbang: that you don't like Dalton, but let's be real here.
