Curry is awesome, most fun to watch play, but not the MVP

He is the most skilled player in the league, greatest shooter of all time, but I think this finals has proven he isn't the most valuable player(not just in the series, but for the season as a whole).
He is a great player on a loaded team. Greens absence last night was very telling, as was the dubs game 1 and 2 blowout wins despite him playing poorly.

Why does him winning the MVP bother so many people here? Every year in every sport you can argue that there is another player who is more "valuable" to his team than the winner, but it should just be renamed Player of the Year.

Best player last year was LeBron. Best player this year is Kyrie.

Curry is not 100%...doesn't really look close to it. Not as explosive. He was definitely the best player in the league this season, but we tend to type before we think.

The MVP is a regular season award. For 82 games this year Steph was the MVP.

People continue to ignore this, immediately resort to calling anyone bringing this up as whiners and excuse makers. He had two significant injuries take him out of games this playoffs. The fact that he's still performing at the level he is speaks volumes.

Take lebron off Cleveland take Steph off golden state, what happens? Which teams suffers more?

Look at past history. The MVP is hardly ever given to the most valuable player. It's just the player of the year which he was without a doubt.

Who gives a shite?
LeBron puts up the same number but Cleveland misses the playoffs or is out round 1, the argument from the fanboys becomes "LBJ is still the best player".
Just get over it.

Cleveland is back in the lottery. Golden State wins 55+ games and is still a top 4 seed in the west

You're irrational in the opposite direction of Lebron haters.

Cleveland would still be a playoff team in the East. Let's not forget Love also joined Lebron in Cleveland and Bosh joined the Heat with Lebron when he went there. So records are skewed.
Durant is the true MVP.

So you're saying they were worth roughly the same amount of wins then?

This is a failure of a hot take

The one case of this that stands out to me where I guess they got it right was Sosa and McGwire in 1998. You would just assume that the guy who actually set the new HR record would win the award hands down, even if Sosa wasn't that far behind. But the Cubs made the playoffs, so he got the nod.
You could have gone either way with it looking back at overall stats, but I feel the playoff berth was the deciding factor.

Some believe the MVP award should go to the best player and not necessarily the most valuable player.
