That's a great move by ABC/ESPN.

quote:

Revered Turner Sports sideline reporter Craig Sager will join ESPN’s NBA Finals broadcast team for Game 6 – Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers – Thursday, June 16, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. Sager will share sideline reporting duties with Doris Burke to round out Thursday’s team, which includes play-by-play commentator Mike Breen and analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson.

This unique, one-time opportunity marks the first time Sager has worked an NBA Finals broadcast in his legendary career.

“I’d like to thank Turner and ESPN for approaching me with this tremendous opportunity to be part of The Finals broadcast team,” said Sager. “I’ve been watching the series very closely and, while I do not want to distract in any way from the event itself, I look forward to being in the building for what will be an incredibly exciting Game 6. The NBA community is a very special one and this is a great honor.”

Agreed. Glad Sager will get to work a Finals game. Much deserved.

How is he doing lately? I haven't heard much. I hope this isn't a "he might not be around next year" kinda of thing and just more of a acknowledgment of his career and the battle he's faced the last couple of years.

His Cancer returned. Without treatment he was told he had 3-6 months to live.

this sounds like a bucket list deal for him. I doubt he'll be around by next years finals.

Don't give that troll any more attention. That is all he wants.

Damn shame TNT never got to cover the NBA Finals, and probably won't in the near future. It would be so much enjoyable than what we have now

Though I do feel a little wary being that he's doing a Game 6 that wasn't necessarily guaranteed once the series started. This must have been decided a day or two ago.

But he is getting top-notch treatment...so hopefully he will be around longer than that.

I find him annoying, can't stand the guy. The only one worse IMO is that fat greek dude that does Fox college football.

Dan LeBatard was griping about that this morning. Stugatz brought up the point that Sager might not have been able to do earlier games because of his health or cancer treatments. Shoot, Cleveland is a major medical hub, he may be getting treatment there.

While I disagree with you on Sager, Petros Pappadoucheolos or however you spell it, definitely sucks. Automatic mute button.

If pop of all coaches don't find him annoying, I can't come to that conclusion

Yeah, like I said I'm a little wary on this, though they honoring him with the Jimmy V award at the ESPYs, maybe cross promotion
