Wasn't old enough at the time to experience it or quite frankly be aware, but what happened? Watching this 30/30 on the Buffalo Bills with some short pieces on the cowboys and I can only wonder how the train got derailed.

As soon as the 2000s hit it was like a switch was flipped. The records were terrible, the coaching decisions were questionable and every time the cowboys sniffed the playoffs they choked it away.

Someone needs to tell Jerry to be more like the Patriots and less like the Browns.

Jerry fired Jimmy and then put himself in charge personnel decisions. A few years later the talent was gone.

They took a back seat to the real Texans.

Jerry got jealous. If he would have let Jimmy Johnson build and coach the team, Dallas would have had probably at least 5 Super Bowl wins in the 90's. Once Jerry wanted it to be about him, we have suck ever since. The most successful franchises give the GM and head coach autonomy. Jerry is incapable of that.

Jerry thinks he's a NFL quality general manager. He's not. That is what happened to the Cowboys. He got lucky with Jimmy Johnson.

A combination of things, most of which is Jerry is not a good GM and the Salary Cap kinda changed everything.

Jerry Jones let Jimmy Johnson leave, and kept Romo too long.

It was the salary cap. Teams manage their rosters much differently now. The Cowboy roster was decimated over the course of just a few years because other teams would sign solid contributors off their roster to huge contracts.

Cowboys didn't replace those players with solid draft picks or smart free agent signings. Jerry got desperate because the window was closing on the Triplets. He made moves that backfired & left the team in bad shape.

It's very easy to say Jerry isn't a good gm or much of the fault is bc he fired Jimmy, but the op overstates how bad the cowboys have been the last 20 years. They've had some very good teams. Jerry has put together some good rosters.

Romo is probably the biggest problem. He's just not quite good enough. With Drew Brees, or Brady, etc, they would have won at least a couple Super Bowls in the last 15 years.

Joe Flacco won a Superbowl.

FA happened. After 1994 the CBA changed & teams were allowed to outright sign players they previously were unable to. Teams naturally poached the players off SB teams at a higher rate. They lost several key players & much of their depth

Boo hoo. My team has one playoff win in 60 years. Who cares if the Cowgirls were down for a decade or two after reaching the pinnacle?

That was touched upon. The makeup of the cowboys is certainly starting to look like the early 90s with Dak and Zeke. But if the Cowboys have seasons like 2007 and last year and still don't produce, I think I'd wanna (in jest) kneecap that that son of a bitch.

frick Aex Smith made a conference championship game and should've won it too. Then Kaep goes to the SB.
