Don't get me wrong, it is an endurance/sprint race but you wouldn't pace yourself like you would running an 800mtr race. It's just a different kind of endurance, as in how long can I sprint at top speed for, because if you're "pacing" yourself you are doing it wrong.

Eta: in my humble opinion

Some people are very very very delusional The tennis team at Lsu we all ran between 54-58 seconds. So we weren't runners but we were in phenomenal shape. So to say an average non fat male can do it is asinine

I imagine you ran d1 track in college then? Or did you fall off after 7th grade? Because that time as a 12 year old puts you in an elite category

yes

Can't tell if you are talking about boys or girls. Try 46-49 range to win state for boys.

My buddy who never ran a 400 meter in his life and I snuck on to a track and had a drunk race one night. He is a good but not incredible physical athlete, had done 0 endurance or sprint training, and he easily went under 400. It just really isn't that fast.

60 is the time that pretty good 8th graders and high school girls can do with no real training. A full grown man should be able to easily outrun 8th graders and non-elite girls.

The guy telling you that 55 seconds isn't a solid time in highschool track is right.

I ran the Open 400 and the 4x4 relay in highschool. Fasted open 4 was just sub 53. Fastest split in relay was sub 52. I do not think I ever placed in the open 4 with that time. But our relay team was legit and won league and actually we won the league meet for our entire time by winning the relay. And I grew up in rural Michigan where all I ran against was white boys from small farm towns. 55 is not a solid time for highschool track.

I think you are severely overestimating how fast a 60 is. Obviously whether a 55 is a good time for a high schooler or not is all relative to what you mean by good. I'd say the worst player on the bench of most varsity basketball teams is still better at his sport than a guy who only runs a 55 is at quarter-miling.

But 60 is nowhere near a 55. Do you not believe that plenty of high school girls and 8th grade boys run 60 and better? And I'm not talking about ones that go on to have success at the next level either. Have you seen how physically immature 8th graders are compared to adults? How slow girls are?

I understand a lot of people can't do it because a lot of people are fat.

Sounds about right. Why do you think able bodied men shouldn't be expected to be able to run within 6 seconds of a college tennis player? 6 seconds is massive. Would be a 40 or so meter lead.
