re: Could the Astros collapse be the biggest in recent memory?

They've been just abysmal the month of September. But are 6-4 over their last 10. The pitching seems to be doing better, except for the bullpen last night (should have taken that one), Springer is coming alive, Gomez is getting healthy, and (dare I say it) Chris Carter is hot.

Sadly, even many of us Astros fans are not surprised. Yes, there are some meltdowns in the DAT...
I think the Rangers had a pretty significant collapse in 2012?
Personally, as an Astros fan... if they don't make the playoffs I will be disappointed, but not overly surprised. However, if you'd asked this question in mid-June I would've had a different answer. Their performance from mid-June to now took all of the "collapse" out of their season. They simply performed to expectations instead of exceeding them.

Pretty sure, yeah.
They did still make the wild card game, though.

No.. they never had that big a division lead.
Like the Rangers blew a couple of years ago, for example.

This has way more to do with the Rangers crazy tear than the Astros choking.

And not that it's a collapse but still think the Nationals shitty 2nd half will be remembered more than the Astros, simply because of all the hype they had

Rangers made the playoffs. Can't really call it an implosion if you make the postseason, no matter how you do it.
As a die-hard Rangers fan, I knew the Astros were going to be good it was just a matter of when, and honestly thought 2014 was going to be the first year we saw glimpses so this season's early dominance didn't really surprise me.

ok bat
A 1.8 O/WAR would argue with the offensive jab. But yes, he's an average center fielder.

All that veteran leadership. Who do the stros have that fits that roll exactly? Gattis? Carter? Qualls????
Stros are YOUNG! And they are playing like it...

A few years ago the Pirates were in the thick of the pennant race and then imploded in August and September. Ended up with a losing season.

They also had a decent collapse in 2013 and had to play in a playoff game to make the wild card. At least on this level if this is being labeled a collapse

I think they just missed the playoffs altogether that season.
Posted on 9/30/15 at 11:06 am to BayouBengals03
Yea they did. They played a game 163 against the rays for the last wild card spot though
Posted on 9/30/15 at 11:07 am to WestCoastAg
ohhhhh classic double wild card play-in game
ETA: Tampa had to win back-to-back games on the road. Impressive.

All you are doing in this thread is displaying your ignorance.
The Astros roster has a combined 113 ABs in the playoffs, whereas the Rangers have somewhere around 970.
You can research my archived posts on here and find where I stated this run from the Rangers was coming and that the Astros have defied serious odds to be in playoff contention.
Yes, many of the DAT guys either wanted to bet me or claim I was really not an Astros fan, but any seasoned baseball fan could see this coming. I truly saw a collapse on the way, but the Dodgers sweep w back to back wins over Greinke and Kershaw w a Fiers no hitter thrown in actually pulled me in a bit.
Didn't take me long to come back to my senses.

A team with young players, a chump change payroll, picked to finish last in the division , and still possibly making the playoffs, and you are still trying to Astro bash?
I swear, people are retards.

I've got nothing to add about the Astros, but I just want to point out it is incredible how many times I see this cliché on this site with "breaks" instead of "brakes."
Carry on.
