Could the Astros collapse be the biggest in recent memory?

The team has a run differential of like +90 and is somehow not in the playoffs as we speak.

I believe they're a half game behind the Angels, and 2.5 back behind Texas. I know there have been some bad ones in recent times, but would Houston choking down the stretch be the worst in the last five, ten years?

Especially to a team like the Rangers that's used a makeshift pitching staff for two thirds of the season?

I mean, not really... we never really stretched the lead out past 4-5 games since the all star break. Not like there was a 10 game lead or anything. Also, it's not even close to over.

No.

The Red Sox had a 9 game lead in 2011 going into September. The same year, the Braves had an 8.5 game lead going into September.

Both missed the playoffs.

The Astros aren't good. They've been under .500 for 4 months.

No because for there to be a collapse you would have to be a huge favorite and blow it

I don't think anyone thought the Astros were really a favorite at any point this year. They were the underdogs overachieving

It's pretty bad. It feels like if they aren't hitting the long ball, they lose.

Key word in the title is could lol. I bought tickets for the ALDS game 1 in Arlington and I'm already convinced I jinxed it. A lot can obviously still happen and it looks like it's going to come down to Texas and Anaheim this weekend more than anything else.

This is basically a playoff series. One team could play the other out of the playoffs (assuming the Astros win their games). But, a lot remains to be seen...

Umm...we're still in it.

Angels & Rangers play eachother in a 4 game series this weekend.

2007 Mets had a 7 game lead with 17 games to go.

The only reason I personally believe the Astros could be worse than that of Boston's in 2011, is because if Texas wins the division they have to be the most random team to make it in some years.

Best player didn't play an inning this season while the #2 pitcher didn't play one until the summer. Choo was maybe the worst player on the team in the first half of the season, our former #1 prospect hasn't played in a year and a half, one of our best players we took for free from Houston because they didn't believe in him enough to put him on their MLB roster, and we've gotten production out of a ton of just random players.

Guess you don't know how to read the posts slightly above yours where I said it will likely come down to that series this weekend.

Good try though.

I'm assuming you're talking about Delino DeShields? And you think he's one of the Rangers best players?

The guy has plus speed, and an ok bat and ok defense. Our outfield rotation is pretty crowded, all with talent better than DeShields.

I've been an Astros fan my whole life and thus isn't even the worst collapse this decade

2011 Red Sox has to be the worst in the last decade. If I recall, Atlanta also collapsed badly that year. 2007 Mets also comes to mind.

They are only two and a half games back and the Rangers still have to play 4 vs the suddenly streaking Angels.

Pump the breaks b/c dat Japanese Fade may still bite the boys in Arlington yet.

The Astros are playing a bit worse than they had been. But a lot of it has to do with the Rangers and Angels playing really well right now.

The Astros have basically been playing .500 ball for several months. They are 10-16 this month.

So yeah, they're playing worse, but they aren't imploding. Give the other teams credit for winning a bunch of games to catch up.
