Tampa Bay and Oakland have been mentioned as markets that could eventually risk losing their teams if their ongoing stadium issues are not resolved.

Montreal, Charlotte, North Carolina, San Antonio, Portland, Oregon, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, northern New Jersey, Mexico City or Monterrey, Mexico, are among the markets that could eventually land on baseball's radar as potential locations for new franchises.

Montreal, in particular, has been vocal in its desire to land a team. The city's mayor, Denis Coderre, met with Manfred in New York in late May to begin a dialogue on the subject. Montreal showed its fervor for baseball by attracting 96,000 fans for two exhibition games between the Toronto Blue Jays and Cincinnati Reds in March. But Manfred has publicly stated that the city needs to build a new facility to replace Olympic Stadium, home of the Montreal Expos from 1977 through 2004.

If I am a free agent why would I want to play in Mexico ?

Why? There aren't any good markets for baseball to expand to. And don't tell me Montreal. Their attendance was horrendous for years before they moved. They were 11th in the NL in attendance when they had the best record in baseball in 1994. All they care about in that city is hockey.

I see the Rays moving if another city builds them a new stadium. The Trop is a dump and Tampa/St Pete has showed they're not interested in supporting the team even when theyre a competitive team.

Yeah, I'd relocate Tampa to Montreal, and Oakland to OKC or Vegas. Then add the 2 expansion teams to Charlotte and Portland.

32 teams would pretty much guarantee another playoff expansion. They'd have to go to eight 4-team divisions. 8 teams get in from each league. Old-timers would HATE that.

The fans would support it if they wouldn't have to basically drive at least an hour or more to get to a game in rush hour traffic. Leaving for a 7pm game at 4:30 isn't fun nor feasible for many fans. So we stay home. The other problem is the lack of public transportation to get fans to the ballpark. So driving is the only option.

Drugs. Back in the 80s when the cocaine epidemic was at its peak, visiting players loved to visit Montreal because that city had some of the best cocaine in the world. Whitey Herzog said he often flew out his teams on the same day as the first game of the series whenever they visited Montreal. He did that so his players can get at one least good game in before they get strung out on coke for the rest of the series.

Montreal

I'm not sure how well it would do, but it would be nice to have MLB in town so I'd take it

The Expos attendance sucked. I'd open a ballpark in San Antonio or Louisiana before Montreal.

Texas doesn't need 3 MLB teams. Montreal mayor gets them a new stadium, give them a team back...Can't do worse than Tampa or Oakland.

Then go to a new place, OKC would do well IMO and be a top choice for out West.

It takes time to build a market for a team when 90% of its citizens are Northern transplants. Not to mention when you lump the team in the same division as 88% of where the transplants are from

if Oakland gets moved it will be to San Antonio.

you can maintain the division and really build a nice three way rivalry with Houston and Dallas.

yeah they could do it. easily.

san Antonio is big enough and then you have Austin and their million person population to feed off of.

Several years back the Marlins were looking at moving to SA and the Rangers and Astros were ready to fight pretty hard against it. Both teams are under ownership now but I can't imagine they'd be any more open to a 3rd Texas team
