Minnesota out draws them in a terrible climate and much much smaller less desirable city with an equally as bad team and new stadium.

The Minneapolis Saint Paul metro area has 2.9 million people. That's more than double the population of San Diego. San Diego is also less than two hours from Anaheim - so the baseball fans in the area are not without options.

There's nothing wrong with Oklahoma City as a possible destination for a baseball team, I'd just be more biased to look at a bigger market like San Antonio because a larger population (Minn/St Paul) has an easier time generating attendance than a smaller population center (San Diego). ETA - the larger population also has an easier time supporting the taxes for periodic stadium replacement.

If the focus was purely on the "good" of MLB and its future as a sport they would cut back about 3-4 teams and reduce the regular season by 15-20 games.

Kige the comment about returning the baseball regular season to its historical length.

Reducing the number of teams won't happen because the other owners won't want to pony up and pay off the teams being removed. It would be nice, but it won't happen.

Austin will get a big win very soon. It sucks that Nolan may have blocked expansion with the AAA Express. My guess is we will land MLS in next 5, then baseball in about 15

Eta: frick San Antonio and its dirty arse downtown

I don't know that that's true though, big market doesn't mean easier attendance draws. See St Louis. Or the Thunder in NBA or Blazers. And many big markets that don't draw.

San Diego is a hotbed for tourism, much like how Vegas projects their NHL team next year drawing a large amount of its attendance from tourists in the area. I mean comparing Minneapolis to San Diego is not something that needs to be done. Hell climate alone, Twins miss games due to snow and half their home slate is played below 50 degrees.

There is 15 million people in the LA, MS, AL, TN, and northern FL area with no team. NOLA, Bham, Nashville, or the gulf coast would be a better option than giving Tx another team, or trying Canada again.

All of those would be terrible, Nashville maaaaaybe. I can't see MLB in NOLA and sure as hell not BHam.

Too wide a geographic area for fans to make a Tuesday night game. The 3-4 hour radius works for the NFL but baseball is going to be driven by the immediate area.

The union won't stand for it either. That's 100 jobs disappearing.

Plus whatever teams you try to contract, the local stadium authority will go to court to enforce the lease and will win. MLB would end up having to pay off the stadium debt to get them to back off.

Montreal was among the league leaders in attendance in the 1980s. They have a rich baseball history dating back to their time in the minor leagues.

Montreal is big enough for baseball and so is Vancouver. The NBA never should have left Vancouver for Memphis. But baseball is very popular in British Columbia. They have town ball and leagues for college kids in BC. The weather is good for baseball in BC from Feb to October.

New York and New Jersey could support another team as well and it would be more fair for other teams to have the Yankees and Mets face competition in their market.

I don't see baseball coming to Nashville, Charlotte, New Orleans, or Birmingham or any other city like that in the South.

Yes, but long-term it's a better market. The large increase of Asians in Vancouver would have made the NBA viable in Vancouver. They have a nice arena.

Not correct. The first couple weeks of the season and the playoffs if they make it would be below 50 degrees, that's it

I agree New Orleans is the best option. Plus, there are no real teams in the deep south.

Why isn't Austin in that list? Rangers and Astros don't have the pull of jerry jones and the round rock express draw attendance
