UF and FSU's stranglehold on the state existed largely because UCF and USF lacked football programs. Now that UCF and USF are building athletic programs and boosting their academic status they will continue to chomp away at UF's stranglehold over the central part of the State. I'd argue that Tampa has already flipped to USF even though their football program has just over a decade of history.

How will will USF's living alumni pass UF's? UF is a larger school and has been larger much longer.

50% may be high, but it is closer to that than 30%. I agree USF and UCF are making strides, but they are still no where close to 35% of the state. Outside of alumni they never really seem to have much of a following. USF usually has fewer then 45K people in the stands in one of Florida's largest cities. I would bet when FSU comes to town Raymond James is almost 50/50 Noles and Bulls fans.

Tampa and Orlando are still very much Gator towns, and it isn't that close.

yeah these things suck. it's always just a "where is your school located map?"

if this was the only stupid pre-season feature, i would use energy commenting but, as you know, stupid features come so often and so fast these days that we are experiencing "stupid feature gridlock".

If so why are Tampa's best high school recruits going to UGA and USCe? Murray, Bostick, Garcia, Charles? It would seem to me like since UF "very much" owns the area that they would benefit in the recruiting?

California is wayyyy off. It is far more of a patchwork of Cal/Stanford in the north and USC/UCLA in the south. Nobody cares about fresno state, san jose state. The far north should be blank like Montana as all those hippies care about is getting high.

Not sure what this has to do with fans of schools or how it shows USF flipped Tampa from UF.

That said these are a handful of guys compared to a very long list of guys that have signed with UF from the region.

Did you see Alabama and Auburn's size in regard to South Alabama, Troy, and UAB

Truth. Hell half the people that live in Troy are Bama/Auburn fans.

Reality is knocking at the door, and you should let him in.

UF does not currently and has not owned Tampa in years. I spent years in Tampa as an LSU guy with no affiliation to any FL school and its painfully obvious to those without orange and blue glasses that UF's sphere of influence has diminished there. Sure there are plenty of UF alum in the area. There are many times more USF alum in the area as is evidenced by hopping in your car and driving on I-75 North for any length of time. The roads are littered with USF stickers and license tags. The reason is the same as its always been, USF's student body is largely composed of locals whereas UF's are dispersed throughout the State. You'll find no greater concentration of USF alum anywhere in the State than in Tampa. While USF had no athletic programs UF was the benefactor as the geographically closest major University to Tampa. Many USF alum cheered for UF or even FSU. That has since changed and its time to accept it.

Nothing personal, UF's a great school but let's get with the times.

I guess we have to agree to disagree. You turn on sports radio in the Tampa area and college football talk is always UF first and everyone else second.

USF usually gets between 35,000 and 45,000 people to show up to a football game and essentially give away tickets. You think if Florida played in Tampa they wouldn't sellout a stadium with a capacity 25,000 under then The Swamp?

UF is done son. Get ready to be replaced by USF in the SEC and get scheduled for your yearly homecoming spanking in Tampa.
