Easy Wooden
My top 5 list would go like this
Wooden
Phil Jackson
Coach K.
Vince Lombardi
Bear
I have seen 4 top coaches of all time, and wooden is #1 in every one of them.
I would put him at number #2 on most bad arse coach of all time behind Bobby Knight.

FYI, Lombardi still holds the record for winning percentage in the NFL and Knute Rockne holds the collegiate record for winning percentage. Personally, when you consider the totality of Rockne's accomplishments, I would rate him the greatest coach in American history in any sport and the #2 coach, whoever he is, is not even close.

Better question should be Coach Wooden vs. Coach Dedeaux.

In order to qualify for the NCAA tournament when Wooden was coaching you had to win your conference. Bryant wasn't winning conference championships every year.

Huh?

Bear Bryant was a part of fifteen conference championship teams (conference record in parentheses):
1950 - SEC - Kentucky (5-1)
1957 - Southwest Conference - Texas A&M (6-0)
1961 - SEC - Alabama (7-0)
1964 - SEC - Alabama (8-0)
1965 - SEC - Alabama (6-1-1)
1966 - SEC - Alabama (6-0)
1971 - SEC - Alabama (7-0)
1972 - SEC - Alabama (7-1)
1973 - SEC - Alabama (8-0)
1974 - SEC - Alabama (6-0)
1975 - SEC - Alabama (6-0)
1977 - SEC - Alabama (7-0)
1978 - SEC - Alabama (6-0)
1979 - SEC - Alabama (6-0)
1981 - SEC - Alabama (6-0)

Bryant finished ranked in the AP top ten twenty-two times.

Considering that Bryant coached teams finished in the AP top ten more times than all but ten programs, this is no debate.

The only teams that have more finishes in the AP top ten than Coach Bryant's teams are the usual suspects: Oklahoma, Michigan, Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Nebraska, USC, Texas, Penn State, and Tennessee.

In terms of overall accomplishments, it's Wooden, easily. However, I can't turn a blind eye to the whole Sam Gilbert situation, so I'll say that Bryant is the best coach in college sports history.

So Bammer boosters never gave "incentives" to Tide players during his tenure? You are spot on with Sam Gilbert, it was dirty as hell, but so were the Bear's Tide teams. Otherwise, I'll take what is bullshite for $1000, Alex.

Rockne and it ain't even close. Rockne took college football from a dirt road to a six-lane interstate highway. Bryant drove on the interstate that that Rockne built.

Both coached 16 years as HC (major university) before winning their 1st title.

There is a cream available for your condition at your local supermarket.

It's a lot easier to build dominant teams by paying players in basketball than it is in football. See Calipari.

I'm an Alabama fan but I have to give the nod to Wooden. He is without a doubt the greatest coach of all-time in any sport, followed closely by Vince Lombardi.

It' not really the same. I'm not saying Bryant was completely clean, but it's not nearly as bad as the situation with Gilbert, in my opinion.

Look at Wooden's record before and after Gilbert got involved with the program. He went from being an occasional tourney participant to absolutely unbeatable.
