Don't be dumb. His dad being from Africa has no relation to this issue. You realize there are adults that are getting their high school educations completed in their 20s, 30s, and later? Should they play too?
I will back the LHSAA on this one. As soon as you let a kid in who is one minute over 19 at the start date, every kid who has to sit out will be filing a law suit.

a lot of schools on both sides of the split want the split now and and their is growing sentiment to split all sports... which will eviscerate HS sports in LA....
I think you would still have high school based clubs playing football because the demands of putting a football team together nearly require a school in the first place. All other sports can easily go to the club level and be fine (as most already do).

So if he was 6'6" 280 lbs you would change your opinion? The rule is not about size. Have you seen some of the high school seniors (at 18 years old) these days? Should we tell them they can't play b/c they might hurt someone?

But why? Because you don't want a kid being bigger than everyone else hurting someone. Not the case here.
who cares why if the school agreed to it? they're free to join any other association that might let him play if they so desire
i guess you think there should be weight/height restrictions? "sorry. you're 6'11", too tall to play high school basketball in Louisiana"

the school boards would still control most of the stadiums and most gyms... i still want to watch football on Friday nights with Chalmette(ish) kids

Even football is beginning to turn to the club level with Core6 teams or whatever the frick they call it. Every other sport has already taken all of the true competition to the club level. Baseball has the Marucci summer travel teams, basketball has AAU, track has AAU, soccer has summer clubs, even fricking lacrosse has a city team.
The only reason these kids compete for their school is to obviously continue playing and really just for a school pride aspect of beating other local schools. The real competition hasn't been at the actual school level in years.

As hard as it is, put yourself in their shoes and think what that would be like. They show up and are trying to get kids into school and TO a school daily, find place to live, learn English? Checking eligibility rules in that case is nowhere on their radar.

I don't agree that school sports are not competitive. Club sports just make it easier to pool talent.

Was the vote on party lines? This seems like something the Dems would get behind.

that and nobody would ever hear or care about them if the school teams didn't exist... the school teams somewhat fill a need for entertainment in some of the small towns in LA. you think a club team is coming to some random class 2A town?
especially in football, the schools play 7 on 7 which is not football, but practice for football. they play actual football, during football season, which cannot be duplicated.
i'd like to see a kid get recruited by LSU and the SEC for football who's ONLY played 7 on 7 pass skel drills

You still fail to cite how any of that matters. My dad didn't get a free cup of coffee each day because he earned his citizenship the hard way. You don't get exceptions in life because you had it rough.

My comment has very little to do with this legislation and a lot to do with their debate about basically removing the sports from individual schools and making it a city type program.

this could be the death knell... I just wonder how E is going to react to their new LAA district which would include Uhigh, PBS and likely riverside or EDW....
Yeah, like Episcopal hasn't had fricking U-High or Parkview in their district before. U-High was in their district for about 30 years before the last realignment and Parkview was in their district back in my HS days playing for the Knights.
As far as people screaming about the "death knell", this will be only about the 2nd or 3rd time this has been done in the LHSAA over the course of around 30 years.
IIRC, the last time it was done was when the legislature passed a law to force it through, much like this one.

Great defense for yourself. You've obviously staked out all the facts and have the keenest insight.

I think the reason this is the death knell is everybody is finally tired of everyone else's crap. It's never been this bad before.

We've been saying "It's never been this bad before" for a few years now.
I won't believe that the LHSAA will implode due to its own stupidity until it happens, given that split classes for football thanks to 4A and 5A schools strong-arming Class B and Class C schools on the vote didn't do it.

I wouldn't be so quick to suggest that it didn't. It's just hasn't worked its way all the way through yet. I know that privates have been meeting even this year about creating a new organization.
