Coach Chris Scelfo was 6-5 in 2000, two years after Tulane went 12-0.

Coach Desormeaux is 5-5 in 2023, two years after ULL went 13-1.

Congratulations to Ragin Cajun Fans and the University for hiring their version of Chris Scelfo when they chose Michael Desormeaux.

If history continues to repeat himself, ULL will have Coach Desormeaux on the sideline for six more seasons as the wins get progressively fewer while Sun Belt Billy’s foundation crumbles to dust.

Both programs definitely showed everyone that it is much better to hire someone mediocre at best and loyal than another talented hungry Coach to keep success rolling.

Who, funny enough, was part of that 12-0 Tulane staff.

Chris Scelfo went 3-8 in his first year after Bowden, despite inheriting 8 players that would make a pro camp. 5 losses by 20 or more points.
One thing Napier had that I'm assuming Desormeaux doesn't is a big budget for a staff. Napier had a top 5 G5 staff (stronger than a lot of P5s). And from what I've seen at Florida, that staff may have been stronger than Napier.
But, despite a strong staff, there wasn't a clear internal successor to Napier (in contrast to Tulane, post Bowden).
I hope it doesn't come to this, but Fritz doesn't have an internal successor either. Mack Brown didn't either when he left. A

That’s the biggest mistake you can make as a G5 program, settling for a coach because you think he’s loyal and won’t leave.

You must accept that you’re a stepping stone and hire a mercenary who’s hungry to win and leave as quickly as possible. Then go hire another one.

G5’s are always one bad coaching hire away from being irrelevant for a decade.

Desormeaux had the exact same contract and staff commitments that Napier had in year one.

He’ll be fine. As long as ESPN and the refs keep calling them Lafayette like they did last night, the fans will never notice his record. Too busy bitching

Shiel Wood maybe. That guy will be a good head coach someday.

In the likely event that Fritz bolts after this year I think Tulane should try to get Jon Sumrall, if he doesn’t get scooped up by a bigger program

If we go 6-6, get to a bowl game and win, Martin Hall will probably extend his contract.

University leadership doesn’t like any real success in football, because with that brings expectations. We can’t have any of that. They view the excitement around Hud’s first two seasons and the top 25 finishes of Napier’s last two seasons as “too much of a distraction”.

It’s really weird. LSU fans bring that talking point up more than anyone else.

At this point, vast majority of Cajuns fans don’t give much a shite as long as the program wins. Which it’s not doing right now.

That Football Team is Hot Garbage. Very Poor Product they are putting on the field. Started watching and turned it off. Pathetic Effort, Play Calling, and Overall Coaching.

You said vast majority so this doesn't disprove your point but I still think it's funny. Was it the guy that runs Ragin Review that wrote a letter to the boss at 103.7 furious that Moscona's show was going to play in Lafayette?

One of his reasonings was because Moscona refuses to call them UL. That guy sure got worked up lol.

Yeah…I know who that guy is.

And while I do appreciate to a point his seeming desire to promote Louisiana Ragin Cajun athletics, my personal opinion is he’s an attention seeker above anything else. One of those “look at me” guys.
