The Cubs would have an interesting roster. An offense led by guys still in diapers and barely above the drinking age propping up a pitching staff led by multi millionares with years and years of playoff experience.

This is more than likely his last lucrative contract, I'll be shocked if he's doing option years and instead looks for one last payday.

He may find that contract demand to be met with silence if he wants those years guaranteed.

No way. Dodgers will happy overpay. We will over pay too. Just hope not in years.

This is a dream scenario for Russell Martin. After him, the C market is a bag of crap.

He's going to get PAID.

Also read where Jake Peavey is best buds with Lester and would like to join him. I'll take both.

With a roster full of young talent, it's worth to pay for some veteran leadership (Martin, Peavey, Lester, etc)

Depends which peavy. Boston peavy, no. Giants peavy, maybe. Think he might have pitched well enough to get 3 years. Would have really liked him on the cubs one year prove it special. Of course now we'd get peavy after multiple tries.

Would be happy to sign hammel again.

Still hoping to trade for heyward too.

That's saying cubs are favorites for those guys right, but surely no way in hell would they expect the cubs to sign all this guys. So like if peavy and Lester happen the chance the cubs sign masterson drops to 0. Right?

Great defensive catcher with proven track record of handling staffs well.

Also had OBP over .400 last year. (100 pts higher than Castilla)

ETA--Just saw where Pirates made him a QO, makes me kinda meh on that. Hate losing early draft picks.

Same with Roberston.

well hopefully they add some veteran bats. We have 2-3 positions to fill.

as for pitchers, I think Id rather Scherzer over Lester. Less usage. Lester has 2 seasons of innings pitched on Max.

I hope they dont touch Sheilds

It sucks to me that all the big name pitchers are kind of in career purgatory. They are obviously still effective, but they are all over 30, and these long term contracts are going to be scary in years 4-7.

Well they tried a multi year deal to extend him this season that he turned down. No way they weren't going to offer him a qualifying offer. Only advantage we really have over the dodgers in that respect.

The dumbsh$$ Pirates gave Liriano a qualifying offer, which he'd be a fool not to accept. Bye bye money for Martin.

Been off the bandwagon since we lost to the fricking Dodgers in the 2008 NLDS.

Is it time for me to finally hop on the wagon once more? I for sure haven't missed shite the past 6 years. shite baseball and shite management.

In Theo I trust tho. Lightyears better than fricking Jim Hendry. frick that guy.

You've missed the excitement of building a farm and seeing some of those kids debut along with a really good trade and contract with rizzo.

Welcome back. It's about to get fun.
