The player development has been incredible. Couple that with free agent acquisitions and some shrewd trades and Epstein and Co. have built a team that can contend for quite a while

Rizzo

Is in the middle of a club friendly extension that I think everyone can agree he has outperformed.

Bryant and Russell are under club control for a long time, but will certainly earn their money if they stay healthy and continue to perform

The Cubs are set up for the next decade because of great trades and draft. The signings have been lagniappe

Schwarber- draft
Bryant- draft
Baez- draft
Soler- amateur FA
Contreras- amateur FA
Russell- trade
Rizzo-trade
Arrieta- trade
Henrdicks-trade

What is scary is the year they drafted Albert Almora, they had promised Carlos Correa they would draft him. Now that would have been scary.

Epstein was also given the option of punching Jim Hendry directly in his stupid fricking face for making the Cubs wander in the desert for 6 years with his frickery.

I don't care if people properly rate him. He's probably the best front office leader the Cubs have ever had.

So the claim was that he just came in and spent money, but now it's "well, he's going to spend a lot of money when three guys come up in a few years", which, as we all know may or may not be the case.

Got it. Your points are bulletproof. I'm convinced.

On ESPN 1000 this has been a big topic, the locals were worried Theo would wait to see if we could pull it off then skip town for a new project. NOPE
