I've seen reports (of course from people not associated with the Padres) that they are willing to eat 8-15m in order to get decent prospects back.
If a team eats 10m of the 63 owed then that comes out to 17.6m a team would be paying.... or if you include the 4.1 then 14.25m for this year + the next 3.

I think the Padres are desperate to unload Shields and Kemp... Kemp is obviously harder to move unless he goes to a team he can DH, and they have to eat more of his salary.
Shields still has some value associated with him as he hasn't fallen off the track and is still good to go out and pitch. He leads MLB in games started so far this year and is on pace for another 200 inning sub 4.00 ERA, (I think he gets under 3.50 ERA before the end of the year) and 200 strikeout season.

I don't mind Coghlan trying to steal in front of Russell there. Russell's been making solid contact and has two hits already. The Fowler caught stealing in front of the meat of the lineup makes me angry.
