If I had to guess, maybe a Vogelbach, CJ Edwards, or Almora.

Probably a couple of those with one of Castro/Baez.

I agree, I don't think just Baez and Castro will get it done.

It's probably between us and the Dodgers, and the great thing about that is we both have our untouchables and the next prospect tier is pretty even.

Vogelbach

for price maybe. I doubt the Phils are excited about having another 2 outcome guy who can't play 1st base.

CJ Edwards, or Almora.

I'd be good with that. Would certainly mean we'd need to go get a CF this offseason (or at this trade deadline) for the foreseeable future.

I don't really know how other teams view those two. Almora was struggling mightily, and I'm not even sure where we stand with CJ, closer or potential starter.

I would expect a lot fo teams to inquire about glyber torres. If we make a big splash I highly doubt we keep him.

No baseball today...I wonder if there could be a deal going down.

ETA: Ian Happ hasn't played for the last several days at Eugene...no word on that situation yet.

No thanks? Hold your horses on being sour on Latos. Before I rebut you, I want to know why no thanks.

I think Latos is good enough for being #5 and won't cost much of anything. I'd be more inclined for the Cubs to target Andrew Cashner as well. What a coup that would be. The other option is Mike Leake...I just don't see this Cole Hamels or David Price stuff materializing.

He's always injured and didn't one of his reds teamates say they were better off without him after latos trashed his former team upon being traded?

But mostly because he has a cat named cat latos.

Well Reds clubhouse doesn't seem like the best bunch. Maybe Latos is fed up with being on shitty teams.

May be. Probably a better way to go about that than bitching to ken rosenthal though.

also his complaints sound like a loose locker room...wonder how he feels about a magician coming in?

and as we discuss, BN put up a post on it. And thankfully did research as opposed to just relying on vague memories like me

but Skip Schumaker reportedly went as far as to say, “I think it was an addition by subtraction …. I think a lot of us will be happy to see him in Miami.”

I usually read stuff like that and completely dismiss it. But before I do that here, I feel like I need to realize where there's smoke there's fire and a manager like Joe Maddon--who's manager mojo is equal parts smart baseball ideology and clubhouse chemistry--might welcome anyone onto his roster but ultimately the way the player responds is up to him in how he gets along with his teammates.

And does that play out on the field? Does Latos saying jerkface things manifest itself in the third inning of a Tuesday game? Who knows.

when doing my analysis of who i'd like the cubs to get, it fits in for me.

Fortunately he's also got performance issues so I'm not basing ranking him quite low on my wish list solely on hearsay.

Man...he just looks like a jackass too.

Was he part of that Rizzo charging the reds dugout last year, or was that only champman?

Perhaps it's unfair (it likely is) but he just strikes me as the kind of guy that gives the hitters shite when he's pitched a good game and loses 2-1. Maybe it's bias (it certainly is) but i don't feel like the current guys do that.

That doesn't mean i'll throw a fit if the cubs get him (hell depending on what they give up i might be quite pleased) but the first time something goes wrong and he acts like a dick, I will go full meatball.

Kyle Hendricks and Felix Hernandez both have a 3.24 FIP in 2015. King Felix has a 2.3 fWAR, while Hendricks has a 2.2 fWAR.

Just saw this:

Pitcher A 3.24 FIP, 2.3 fWAR
Pitcher B 3.24 FIP, 2.2 fWAR

Pitcher A is Felix Hernandez.

Pitcher B is Kyle Hendricks. :professor:

(Damn it, Lester.)

I'm curious of everyone's opinion... If you had pick one of these two scenarios, which one do you think the Cubs do this year:

A) Make a big splash for Hamels / Price and another strong bat.

B) Make a subtle paly for a #5 and add another bat that can help in spots.

IMO they are going B. I think they try to make a run but stay focused on the big picture. Just my thoughts.

I hope B.

The starting pitching has been fine. No need to deal prospects for starting pitching when that hasn't been the issue. Cubs need another bat they can fit in at spots and relief help. Buy starting pitching in the off season with CASH.

No need to get off script here just because we're in Wild Card contention. I'd rather see the rebuild through and contend for the division for the next 5+ years than blow it all in the hopes of securing a WC spot. We aren't catching the Cards this season.

Exactly.

Enjoy being a year ahead of schedule, but don't sell out for a hope to play in a one game playoff.

They won't blow the rebuild, I can 99% promise that.

The core is here...the depth prospects like Villanueva, Vogelbach, McKinney, Baez (maybe even considered an elite prospect still), Alcantara, etc....they will be what gets us a deal.
