Coghlan LF
Schwarber C
Rizzo 1B
Soler RF
Bryant 3B
Denorfia CF
Herrera 2B
Hendricks P
Russell SS

Well, let's hope there is no Kyle Schwarbzenneger (hat tiip to Jon Lester) hangover today as the Cubs play two. Notice Kris Bryant dropped to fifth in the game 1 lineup. He's struggling...badly. Also, Starlin Castro is out of the lineup as Addison Russell plays SS and Jonathan Herrera plays 2B. Dexter Fowler gets the morning off too with Denorfia playing CF.

Who are the Cubs best hitters right now? Arguably, Chris Coghlan, Jonathan Herrera, Jorge Soler and Kyle Schwarber. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo have to get out of their slumps in this launching pad ballpark.

Bryant will continue to float 2-5 until the bat livens up some. Can't expect to make pitchers pay when you continue to prove you will chase low and away.

IIRC, we are undefeated when Russell plays SS.

If we're keeping track, Iowa 3B Christian Villanueva hit his 13th HR yesterday.
quote:

Going back to July 16, Villanueva has had 2 hits in 5 of 6 games (including this one) and homered in 3 of them (and twice on July 17). In that span he has raised his SLG from .442 to .498.

I know that's not true for games he's played SS, maybe games he's started. But didn't he start at SS in that shite show game against miami where, surprise surprise, we didn't score but one lousy run, earlier this month?

The one where Bour hit a home run (which ended up winning it) and cubs twitter blew up with "whyd we let him go"

Yoervis Medina recalled, Clayton Richard DFA'd. I wonder...really wonder...if there is a pitching trade coming up.

Gordo (guh) says Beeler will pitch today in G2 (we already knew that) and will be set up to pitch on Tuesday with Hammel and Hendricks on normal rest for Sunday and Monday. Of course, pending a deal.

ETA: Wada pitched yesterday and only went 4.1 IP and got hit hard, apparently.

I'm still hoping we get Hamels..and soon.

If it includes Baez + , I'm hoping they eat salary. If it's Castro +, i'm fine with taking on all of Hamels.

I seriously doubt we trade for a rental. Our window is next 5 years, this season is lagniappe. Hamels fits that window.

I think we are fine trading 2-3 high level prospects, we have Happ and Dewees ready to replenish the farm.

ETA--Maybe a Tyson Ross deal is best of both worlds. Another 3 years of control and not the Hamels price tag. Still allows us to enter the David Price sweepstakes next year too.

He's the only non back end rental i see happening.

I just don't see the benefit of trading away players to get a guy when you've got that FA class coming up. It's not like we're going to be hurting for money in the future.

I also dont' think we'll ever really get into that, as Zimmerman will likely be the target

Ugg...russell.
