This team really needs a shot in the arm ... and Fowler back. Is he supposed to be back before the break? I have heard nothing about him.

Maddon said maybe not until after the all star break. He's eligible to come off tomorrow but it won't be any time too soon.

I'm totally calm right now. This team needs to get healthy and get the heck out of New York

Another rookie making his debut today. Welcome candy man. Now you too can be part of the mass cub fan overreaction. Seems like it came later this year though. So that's progress.
Injuries necessitated much of this year's influx. This stretch starting with St. Louis has been abysmal as the early start was good. Horrific. Thanks goodness the Reds were in the mix.
All I got is we swept the Mets regular season last year so it means nothing once the playoffs get here, but at this rate looks like teams have made adjustments to the Cubs and we ain't adjusting back. And MLB is all about adjustments over 162 games. Let's go Joe. Have another pajama party or whatever, but get these boys back on track.

geesh dude calm down and I'm a Mets fan.
Cubs will be fine I think although all of ya'll talking about hitting...this weekend was all about pitching and the Mets owned that category.
It's baseball, all teams have their trying moments, this is the Cubs.
On the other side, I do love me some Wilmer Flores, glad #1 they finally are just playing him everyday and #2 6 for 6
This series gives me back some life as a Metsie

We did it! WE MISSED THE BARN

I'm calm. It's just a tough stretch. They'll get some guys back and get it together. Tough series in New York.

At least we found something that montero doesn't completely suck at... pitching.

Yep!
But as a life long Mets fan I have been programmed to expect to get swept against Miami now

It's more than the missing guys BMC. IMHO here are the issues in order of urgency:
1)bullpen - yes they were overachieving early but it's taken a complete 180 now to where the situation is dire and T-Wood of all people is the only reliable arm and Joe is about to wear that out. Edward looks good but too small a sample size to count on.
2)Approach at the plate - back to the free swinging strikeout stretches of last year. Some of it a bi-product of the youth due to injuries but several of our vets have seen the increase too.
3)Arrieta - He says it's mechanics but he's been saying that the last, what....5 starts? The league has finally made an adjustment that works, and everyone is now doing it. It's more than mechanics, he's going to have to adjust back.
4)Heyward batting second and struggling badly.
5)Injuries - Soler not so much as he wasn't hitting and he was a liability in the field, but Fowler and LaStella definitely.
6)Hammel - He was overachieving, but we can't afford a free fall like he had at the end of last year. Need to watch him closely the next 3 starts to see if the trend is starting again.

Good stuff there. I didn't even mention the bullpen because it's the most glaring, obvious thing that they need to improve.

Also on Hammel, hopefully his second half doesn't suck quite as bad as last year. Historically though his post July numbers are basically the opposite of his pre-July numbers.
