What happens if Navy wins out? Do they make the final 4?

They would have wins against Memphis, Temple, and Houston with their only loss being to Notre Dame - in which their starting QB got injured part way through the game.

Do they make the Final 4? If they win out but don't make the Final 4, they would be given a NY6 bowl game.

Further, does the fact that the final rankings are released before the Army/Navy game change anything? Would they give Navy a NY6 bowl game before their game against Army?

They would delay the selection show by a week, until the following Sunday, if Navy were in consideration for a playoff spot or NY6 bowl game.

It would be a shite show.

Barring a complete meltdown of every team currently in the top 10 Navy isn't going to be in the playoff.

The committee picks the NY6 bowls, as well.

If Navy wins out, they could be a NY6 selection from the Group of 5 conferences.

The CFP criteria states "If the committee believes the result of the Army-Navy game could affect Army's or Navy's ranking and therefore its place in the playoff or its selection as the group of five representative, only the pairings that affect Army and Navy would be delayed until after the Army-Navy game."

So, they'd just announce the top 4 and the NY6 bowl games, leaving a spot open for Navy if they were to win against Army.

HOWEVER, the big problem would arise with a trickle-down effect to the smaller bowl games. A team like 1-loss Houston or the MAC champion might not want to accept a bid to another lesser bowl game, when a Navy loss could mean one of those two teams would land a NY6 spot. You could see a lot of bowl games with tie-ins to the AAC and MAC be a little handcuffed.

Still, if they win out they will likely receive the G5 NY6 bowl invite right?

Last year those were decided prior to the Army/Navy game. Would that still be the case this year?

do you listen to college sports nation to steal this exact conversation then bring it on here because you didnt like the answer they gave there?

They gave the correct answer.... Navy will never make the playoff with that poor schedule.

There wouldby be a delay for just a NY6 bo we love because that only goes to a conference champion from group of 5. Navy would already be conference champs.

I'm not even sure what college sports nation is? Radio show? Podcast? Crazy to think that 2 different people had the same thought isn't it...

I thought it went to the highest ranked G5 team?

The Schedule is not why Navy would not make the playoff.

As others have said the committee will wait until after America's Game to decide Navy's bowl. As of now we are contracted to the Military Bowl in Annapolis Maryland.

This was arranged with NCAA and Navy AD this summer that in the freak circumstance that Navy or Army would compete for a NY6 or playoff spot the committee would wait a few extra days. The biggest complainer was Air Force Academy, probably because they are left out of America's Game

Sorry. Only read the initial part of your post and thought it was another playoff thread.

I haven't looked at the potential outcomes or exclusions if Navy were to get a NY6 bowl. If they are one loss, I dont see why they shouldn't.

And if a team thinks they are too beneath a lesser bowl, let em walk.

As soon as the CBS contract for Army/Navy ends in 2018, this game will be moved up before the playoff rankings are released.

If Navy wins the AAC, it's going to cause a complete shite show.

They just said they would hold the rankings as necessary if any of these scenarios presented themselves.

Navy is not a top 25 team. They are being propped up along with Temple in order to bolster Notre Dame's credibility.

Navy is currently the highest ranked Group of 5 team.

If they win out, they'll be in a NY6 game.

This is a nightmare for the smaller bowls.

I doubt highly that Navy wins out. Tough games at Tulsa and at Houston. Plus a title game against Temple in Philly.

Hard to defend Navy on one week's preparation. And all of these AAC teams really don't have great defenses, outside of Temple. And even they just gave up 40 points.
