If they had Wiggins this team would roll. The trade for Love killed them.

LeBron wanted Love. But you are right. Swing players are difficult to come by in today's NBA

Not last year.....Wiggins was a low % shooter and had bad shot selections...and part of me thinks on a team that was actually trying to win, that Wiggins wouldn't have even averaged 10 ppg or got near as many touches. I think Minnesota basically said "screw it, just let him do his thing b/c we're not going to win this year anyways".

Maybe Wiggins at this point could be more of an asset than Love, but he wouldn't be at this point if Minnesota didn't let him roll last year IMO.

ETA: Honestly, he's the same this year but he just takes more shots, and gets a few more free throws. Minnesota is also terrible.

You think a rookie shooting 43.7% as the teams #1 offensive option for about half the season is bad and wouldn't have been more helpful than a PF who seems to be a poor fit with LeBron?

You don't think having LeBron to take pressure off of him instead of half a year of Kevin Martin would open up all kinds of space for him to operate in?

What I don't understand is why they didn't just place the interim tag on Lue.

A 3-year deal? What if he doesn't even make the Finals? Then you fire him and have to pay him even more money. The Cavs are already operating over the cap. I would imagine they don't enjoy just throwing even more money around.

Just seems stupid to me.

Wiggins has a -2.2 box score plus minus (BPM) (-2.3 last year) and his value over a replacement player (VORP) is -0.1.

Love, on the other hand, has a BPM of 3.0 and a VORP of 1.7.

Soooo the data suggest you have no idea what you're talking about.

Wiggins will be a very good player, but right now he's decent scorer, an average shooter, poor rebounder, and poor facilitator (not all on him). Right now, which is the important time frame for this trade, Love >>>> Wiggins, especially given their skills sets.

They certainly wouldn't roll.

However, I do think that Wiggins would be a lot more efficient of a player (than he is on Minnesota) playing alongside James and Irving.

I have opined that they shouldn't have traded Wiggins from the get go, and I definitely still feel that way. Love's PER this season is 19, Wiggins' is 16. Certainly a difference, and Love is the better player right now. But when you factor in that Wiggins' ceiling is WAY higher, I just think it was a bad decision.

The Cavs would make the Finals this season whether they had Kevin Love or Andrew Wiggins. Will Love be the difference in them winning a championship? I seriously doubt it, especially with how he's played and how they've used him this season. Of course, the Cavs couldn't have accounted for the Western Conference monsters of Golden State and San Antonio when they made this decision.

Those two teams are just better than the Cavs. They might keep the Cavs from winning titles for a few years.

Besides some initial struggles, how does he "seem" to be a poor fit?

Do you really think the Cavs believe 15/11 on 42% shooting (sub 40% the last month and a half) and mediocre defense as a big is acceptable for what they are paying him?

No. Wiggins is too similar to lebron. They need good role players, especially defenders and clutch shooters.

Wiggins isn't terrible and they wouldn't "roll" if they had him.

Everything must be taken to the extreme!!!!!!

Griffin has been really good, you have to make that trade when you get lebron. Wiggins would have struggled to fit in as a role player (much like Love), would be averaging like 10 points a game and would be constantly involved in trade rumors.

it looked ok at the time. Love was getting 20-something and 10 boards for Minnesota.
