The old 12 game sample size, can't learn anything from that, really.

Literally every measurable says that Durant is better.

But stats are overrated

Hell no! Give me the guy who is worse in every phase of the game, just because he has a 'scorer's mentality' -- who wants an efficient player who gets his points without becoming ball dominant, a guy who gets to the line way more, a guy who rebounds and passes the ball better, a guy who plays better individual and team defense?

I mean, really. How can you not want Melo, when he's clearly only inferior in just about every phase of the game?

C'mon man. It is definitely bizzaro world in this thread.

Wow. I can't believe some people would really take Melo over Durant. It's like bizarro world in here. I didn't even realize that this could be argued. You take the guy who is four years older and has made all of one conference finals. But hey, he's killing the celtics right now...
Only like 1 person said he would take Melo over Durant

Melo is an exceptional scorer, but not an elite player

Now, I'm a Knick fan and I would say Durant is the better overall player...but saying Melo isn't an elite player is pretty stupid.

Oh and at "exceptional" scorer.... You're a basketball genius. ESPN should sign you up.

False. They both average 3.1 assists for their careers

Durant has averaged 3.1 assists a game for his career in 38.2 minutes

Since the 07-08 season, (Durant's first in the league), Melo has averaged 3.2 assist a game in 36.1 minutes

durant has molded his game to improve his facilitation of the offense

assist ratios this year:

KD: 15.5
CA: 8.3 (a sharp decline from his career best 13.1 last year)

Yall don't realize how important RW is to KD's ability to score easy buckets. OKC runs a pick and roll offense with RW and KD on the court. It's simple, and any team in the NBA can run it, but the ability of KD and RW make it difficult to defend against them. Without RW on the court his shots won't come as easy, I'm willing to bet his FG% drops as a result.

No they do not.

quote:

That’s why Brooks will be so interesting to watch now. This has never been a particularly artful NBA offense, and it’s unclear at this stage if Brooks can do anything but run the same stuff, only to run more of the stuff where Durant handles the ball, and to slot Jackson in Westbrook’s place within those sets. We saw some of that in Game 2, when Westbrook got in early foul trouble. The Thunder used several Durant-Jackson pick-and-rolls, their version of perhaps Oklahoma City’s most effective play — the Durant-Westbrook pick-and-roll, a set in which each star can fulfill either function. Jackson is 3-of-6 on 3-pointers in the playoffs, working as a spot-up guy around Durant and Westbrook plays, but he shot only 23 percent from deep for the season. He showed much more promise as a bulldog pick-and-roll handler capable of finishing hard in traffic and (hopefully) finding Durant for spot-up tries. Jackson is also more than capable of filling Westbrook’s role as a pin-down screener for Durant to pop out and shoot jumpers.

read the article

quote:

Both Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant rank in the top five in unassisted field goals, with Westbrook leading the league by a large margin

quote:

But this season, the Oklahoma City Thunder have the most efficient offense in the league, scoring 107.5 points per 100 possessions. And they’re doing it with the league’s lowest assist ratio

quote:

According to Synergy Sports Technology, 23 percent of Durant’s offense comes from isolations, while only 13 percent has come as the ball-handler on pick and rolls.

unless they've had a complete overhaul of their offense (which i don't see any statistical data reflecting), they're still an iso offense

It was easier and more efficient to let them "play off" each other or in other words run a pick and roll set when they are on the court together, together being the key word here. KD handles the ball alot, but they are most effective in their pick and roll set.

do you have any sort of statistical data that shows that? all the stuff i can find (most of it from 2012 mind you) says the iso dominated the pick/roll. just look at the stat i posted: 23% to 13%
