So LSU'S overall football speed had NOTHING to do with that win?????

what overall football speed? Who are these fast guys on LSU? Holliday and? Did you see the 40 times LSU players ran? Its a joke.

WE won that game because we were better. OSU was really not that good that year. Their pass blocking has been bad and their QB was fricking terrible. Gholston was faster than any comparable DE/LB on LSU. You think Scott and Hester are faster than Wells? Come on.

I figured.

It's too bad though for him. Was next to him during the UF game and he couldn't stand all that long and certainly didn't look like a football player anymore.

Hopefully he can come back cause he could play.

That's not the comparison.

The comparison is an SEC LB or DB or Safety vs like a Big 10 one.

So when a QB rolls out against an SEC team, he's closed down much faster. Or it's tougher for a RB to get the edge. Not always, but most anyone who watches CFB well can tell you that SEC teams play faster.

OSU can do a lot of things against Big 10 opponenets because they're faster but it seems like they're shocked into life by teams that can match/exceed their speed. That's the point about SEC being faster. They have speed at positions that don't usually value that trait, and it makes teams who aren't used to it look really slow.

Very good points. This isn't about comparing rb speeds. Of course Beanie is faster than Hester and Chuck. I'm not sure if he's faster than Keiland though. Point is, Ohio St wasn't used to seeing speed at LB or DB like the SEC has. That obviously doesn't mean SEC teams are always better, but Ohio St wasn't used to seeing that and it hurt them.

Also makes you wonder why Ohio St lost to a mediocre USC team this. I'm not flaming or hating at all, but this could be the reason OSU lost. USC has speed at positions too.

I agree, I said as much on the first page, its about the defense, especially the DL and LB vs the OL. That was the difference in the OSU-UF NC game, not so much in the LSU-OSU game.

I know it was different OSU teams, but what team do you think had more speed out of 2002 Miami and 2007 LSU?

OSU just wasn't as good in 2007.

like you said, it was different teams. Also, I know there are OSU fans in here that will dispute it, but there is that PI call at the end...

NO they weren't. But your defenition of team speed differs from mine!!! FLA and LSU had way more FASTER football players than OSU did BOTH YEARS. I could care less about 40 times.

they will also quickly point out the bad calls against Ohio State that helped the game get to OT.

No one expected them to hang with Miami. The point is, they have seen speed before. The Big 10 was not good in 2007. Look at the LSU starting D and tell me who is fast for their position. Dorsey was quick, maybe Jackson? Its not like Florida with Harvey and Moss in 2006.

Outside of UF's DE's who were all these much faster guys? Who were all these fast guys on LSU?

What exactly are you using to measure speed then? 40 times are over rated as an overall evaluation tool, but I'm at a loss to how you are determining speed with out using clock times

Correct.

And just FWIW, it's my opinion that 2006 OSU would have beat 07 OSU by 10-14 points, on average, if they played 10 times. Our 2007 team would win maybe twice in those 10 games. JMO.

I get what you're saying, but anyone who was watching the game could see we were faster. I'm not saying we were 100% faster, but our d looked faster than their O, with the exception of Beanie.

The 2005 tOSU team would have killed both imho.

outside of 02, 05 was tOSU's best team this decade.
