Just on this board?

If we kill this myth I will happily agree to say the SEC is still the deepest conference overall

People misunderstand what the term "SEC speed" even means.

Well it used to mean the lines, but PSU and NW lines even held up pretty well against the SEC lines. Skill Positions I can' think of a team that has more NFL WRs than OSU right now

I think the Speed moniker that has been place on the SEC is in combination with the size of the players. The SEC is full of big monsters that can run faster then guys their size should be able to run. Freaks of Nature if you will. The SEC on average has a lot more of them then other conferences. Its not a myth. As for LSU...... we have far to much talent to look the way we do. I would say three quarters of our fanbase wouldn't mind some serious coaching changes......... maybe even head coach.

This. Speaking for tOSU, we are on par with the SEC on our DL. Our OL has work to do, but will get there. Or close. In the Big 10, your running game needs to be based on power running. That requires big linemen, even if they fall off sharply on athleticism.

This is one of the reasons why tOSU has been dominating the frick out of the Big10.

The "speed thing" is kind of tricky to define.
Big Ten schools have very fast skill people (i.e. WR, RB, CB etc), as do ALL SEC schools. Where the "speed thing" comes in at is DL. The SEC overwhelmingly out produces all other conferences with DL in the pros. This is where other teams, outside of the SEC, lack in speed. Also, having "speed" and playing "quick" is very different. Someone mentioned earlier about players being "freaks". Natural athleticism is something that all big conference schools have, but the SEC without doubt has more.

Also, take and athlete that is fast, and relied on speed to showcase your athletic ability, in any position, most of those athletes would want to play in nice, warm weather, barring rain. The only exception would be school or home ties. This is another reason that SEC schools, USC, Texas, "Southern" schools have built in recruiting advantages.

Because its overblown. I'm sorry if I've been hard on you lately PJ, but here we have another example of you just repeating cliches you've heard over and over again. You know your football history as well as anyone on this board, but you are not good at analyzing.

The whole team speed thing goes back to Miami in the 80's. Its mostly about defense and more specifically about the defensive line and line backers. They had guys that were a little bit "smaller" than the normal DL and LB but where quick,

The SEC speed thing got blown out of proportion with the tOSU-UF game because Florida beat them so bad. The speed difference in that game boils down to the UF DE's Harvey and Moss, who are both listed about 260-265, against the slow, relatively un athletic offensive tackles of OSU. That was the big difference in the game. And from what I've read about OSU, the OL play the last few years has been a big complaint from a lot of their fans.

So we should dismiss the SEC speed myth though even you admit you sacrifice speed for size?

The bad field excuse gets over blown, but you can't deny that a horrible field like that negates speed, especially on the outside.

This is correct. Skill position players on Most SEC teams are better than most Big Ten teams. PSU had a huge advantadge yesterday cause of the field. LSU has NO excuses though as they took a late lead and couldn't hold it. SPEED had NOTHING to do with that.
