Exactly. They were breaking “records” on defense and for scoring margins through X games in a season. While it’s true, it was a joke stat based on the level of competition.

Normally I’d say since it’s the NFL with the parity it’s still impressive, but this year Jets, Dolphins, Redskins are legitimately bad bad teams, Browns and Giants are barely above competent. Add in the fact that as Super Bowl champs the Patriots should have one of the hardest schedules It’s just weird how they all stacked at the start of the season (but it’s not as if the Pats has control of that).

Half their games EVERY year are glorified scrimmages. The rest of the teams in their division couldn’t win the Sun Belt title most years. So they get live practice of new plays and looks and get backups experienced. And almost always home field advantage.

It's done by a super computer. (I dont know that it really is a super computer, but it is done by computers.)

I'm no Patriot fan, but they win the hard games too. KC had them on the ropes last year but let them off the hook. They still get up for their hard games too. They can't help the rest of the east is run by incompetents.

Correct.

Here’s a breakdown of how each team’s opponents are set:

Six games against divisional opponents — two games per team, one at home and one on the road.

Four games against teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road.

Four games against teams from a division in the other conference— two games at home and two on the road.

Two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and one on the road. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season.

Probably only gave up 30 points total through previous 8 games

ETA: looked it up, 61 total through 8 games. 30 in 3 quarters tonight

But y’all said the ravens suck, and Lamar isn’t a good QB because he don’t speak like Bryant Gumbel

I think it is fair to say that the Patriots do have a very good defense. I do also think it is fair to say their status as "all time great" was padded by playing a bunch of the worst offenses in the league and that's being put on display now. Playing the Jets twice who at one point there defense had scored more points than their offense, the Giants, Redskins, Browns, Dolphins. You serious?

I get they can only play who the schedule gods deliver to them but eventually you have to prove your worth as a defense/offense/team against formidable competition, and if you answer that call then we can talk. The Pat's D is having a bad signal so they're having trouble answering that call. But theres still time to make some clutch stops at the end of the game to put themselves in a position to win which is an important metric

It is though. Yeah, the formula is set beforehand, but they feed the data into a computer until they have a schedule that works for all scenarios. That's all I meant.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. As soon as the season ends, all the teams are set. No computer needed. The only thing that they simulate is the order of the games.

I'm amazed after 6 super bowls people still think it matters. They're still the Patriots.

Pats lose a game. Everyone thinks they’re done. Then they march on to a super bowl. Rinse and repeat. Happens every year and you can set your watch to it

I dont think anyone's saying that they're done in the AFC lol. Their defense was supposed to be historic though they said. And that got exposed tonight. It'd be one thing if they lost like 13-10 or something where they couldnt get anything going offensively.

Without that muffed punt and Ingram fumble this is even worse than it is. This was an arse kicking at that Pats D can run off the field. No if ands or buts about it
