I was thinking about this. You could make trades between the two teams to stack one team and win multiple championships. Is this possible to own two franchises in the same sport?

No, the other owners would never approve it.

Sure. Just not at the same time. For obvious reasons like the ones you stated. Brings to mind the odd Loria/Henry situation

Jeffrey Loria sold his Montreal Expos to Major League baseball (who planned to contract the team). He then bought the Florida Marlins from John Henry. Henry then purchased the Boston Red Sox.

I could be wrong, but I think that is how MLS started. Just a few people owned most of the teams.

Lamar Hunt basically owned the league. Hunt is the savior of American soccer. He saved the league from going under in 2001. We need a national stadium with a statue of him, because MLS and professional soccer in America would be nothing without him.

I didn't know that MLS was anything with him in the US.

Obviously minor league hockey here. But the Central Hockey League has three teams owned by the same guy. The other owners allowed this to save the league until new owners can be found. They aren't allowed to make trades or pick up any released players from those franchises without the entire league's approval. Weird situation...

The Original Six days of the NHL were about the same. Detroit Red Wings owner James E. Norris effectively owned the Chicago Blackhawks (he owned the stadium and financed its purchase) AND was the single biggest shareholder of Madison Square Garden (and for all intents and purposes ran the New York Rangers as well). Plus he owned most of the mortgages on the Boston Bruins' arena. It was wild enough that critics joked "NHL" stood for "Norris House League".

Saints fan here, hoss.

ETA: Also, you sure about that statement?

Bragging about whipping up on the Falcons at this point is like bragging about being less blind than your opponent. You're still blind. Need to get our shite together before we can bash on the Falcons again.

He and Phil Anschutz owned half the damn league in the early 2000s. Ownership is much more stable (and diverse). I don't think the Hunts or AEG own more than one team.

Slight aside - I'm reading a Lamar Hunt biography right now. WAY more interesting than you think a book about the bazillionaire son of a bazillionaire oil tycoon would be, that's for sure.
