and even know Bill Clark has them heading in the right direction and now the Gumps want to shut them down without giving them a chance

1) kept them from hiring Jimbo Fisher
Why are they dependent on Bama? Why doesn't their AD have their own money?

2) students voted for an on campus stadium, that could have helped generate more fan support but the Gumps wouldn't let that happen
What kind of silly shite is this? Ask a student if he wants a brand new stadium, he'll say Hell Yeah! That doesn't make it a good investment

How did the students propose to pay for this stadium?

i'm guessing the students would have paid for it over a period of time

they may have been using their own money, but Gumps still have to approve anything that UAB does

Were they going to force the students that don't care about the football team to pay as well? What if the student support for the football team actually got worse? Who's paying for it then? Pretty quickly, the BOT could get stuck paying $70 mil for a stadium.

And everything we do. And everything UAH does. And they have members on the board too. That's how a university system works

then why have the Gumps been trying to keep UAB from ever being successful?

UAB's football program loses $17 million a year. Anybody without an axe to grind can see how terrible a decision it would be to throw $75 million more dollars into the money pit.

Does Louisiana have a football program that is currently losing $17 million a year? Would, for example, the LSU board build a new stadium for such a program? Just wondering how other systems handle these situations.

LSU doesn't have any control over what another FBS team in the state does

Actually they do. Why isn't LSU subsidizing a pointless money-guzzling FBS program in Eunice or Shreveport? Assholes

And there should have never been one at UAB.

A miscalculation, clearly.

when the BOT refused to allow UAB to hire jimbo, it happened. the decline and spiral began then

The BOT also refused to hire Sylvester Croom at Alabama, and our decline and spiral began

UAB has not declined, by the way. They didn't used to be better, or more supportive.

No, this is another study in anti-Bama groupthink and I'm the only sensible one.

Just the way this entire website can convince themselves of a REC conspiracy. Or Saban to Texas.

Seems this issue becomes an Alabama vs Auburn debate but, from a different perspective, I wonder why a LOT of good colleges saddled with money draining mediocre football teams aren't pulling the plug.

They not only have to fund the football team itself but it also means they must fund more women's sports as well that lose money due to Title 9, correct?

When so many colleges are making deep budget cuts that may effect the actual academic staff/course offering etc, it seems absurd to pour money into a football team just because.

Actually, last year Southeastern wanted to increase the athletic budget but would've needed to increase the tuition, so they left it up to a vote to the students. It passed and now every single student has had their tuition increased, so yes its possible.

this board has been discussing this situation since Jimbo was at LSU, LSU was winning BCS bowl games, and Bama was terrible
