He was a tough player, that doesn't equate to all-around greatness. He wasn't a deep to middle threat.

Nice job picking one play he didn't deliver on. It wasn't even a great pass.

Sterling Sharpe should of course be in the HOF.

...ignore the South Carolina logo next to my name.

Given the fact Sharpe never even sniffed a ballot. I don't see how Johnson is considered a lock. Do those extra two years really mean that much?
I don't get your point about the cumulative statistics when Johnson averaged more receptions (marginally), more yards (14), and more touchdowns. He also averaged 2 more yards per reception than Sharpe.

Johnson would have 11 more receptions, 4 more touchdowns, and 1500 more yards if he played only 112 games (Sharpe's total). The cumulative differences are not solely a function of cumulative games played.

Besides you can't just ignore the cumulative stats anyways. Regardless what happens, Sharpe not making it is a poor justification for Johnson not making it.

Sharpe played for more than 1 team in 7 seasons, so the next question I will ask should hurt-

How many franchise records did Sharpe hold at retirement?

Because Megatron holds 9 for the Lions.

Brady gets off easy with that pass. He made his receiver turn his hips while sprinting due to his inaccuracy. It should be 50/50 blame on that play

You are thinking of the wrong Sharpe. Sterling only ever played for the Packers. He held almost all their receiving records, when he retired. The guy he surpassed, Don Hutson (msp?), was considered the greatest WR of all time, before Rice came along.

Actually he wasnt the best in 13 either. Josh Gordon was.

It was pretty close to a toss-up though. Gordon had about 150 more yards and 3 more receptions (3 more target though) but had 3 fewer touchdowns.

Calvin Johnson can do all the things Jerry Rice could do as far as route running, great catches, yards after catch ect. But Calvin Johnson is 3 inches taller and faster than Jerry Rice was. Calvin is better than Jerry Rice. I guess a better way to say it is Calvin WILL BE better than Jerry Rice

What it's crazy to say a current player is better than a former player even though he just broke his record, he's taller and faster, and at this rate will probably have better stats in pretty much every category? Plus the fact that he's humble, a hard worker, and plays his arse off the whole game. Yea he's been on some bad teams but that's hardly his fault; pretty tough for a WR to do everything, but he tries. Open your eyes man, you don't want to miss the greatest WR we've ever seen

He made 6 Pro Bowls, 3x All Pro

Wow before those stats I would have easily said Sharpe, now I don't know. I just don't like today's NFL with all the damn rules for offense. So I guess I'll go with Sharpe.

I'm not arguing one over the other. They were both awesome players and were the best or really close to the best at their position when they played. I just think they are really comparable and have extremely similar careers, other than Johnson playing two more seasons. Given all that, I don't understand how Johnson is getting all this HOF run, when Sharpe has never been close to getting in. Thats what I'm trying to figure out..

Sharpe was a 5x All Pro, not 3. He was 3 time 1st team, and 2 time second team.
