Between the ~$30M in signing bonus savings and Dodgers taking on Arroyo deal, Braves gave up Wood/Peraza to get Olivera for 5 years, ~$22M.

With arroryo sent to LA, another way to look at the net trade is -

Wood
Peraza
Johnson
Avilan
Gosslin

For

Olivera w/ cheap control 5 years
Toussiant
Rodriguez
Bird
Draft Pick

Yes, it's very contingent on Olivera's health and ability to perform....but if he does the trade could be a big win.

Saw that too. The deal is done but not official yet. Dodgers don't care about Morse. He's thrown in because of his contract.

30 is right around when most players get their first FA shot. He's MLB ready, save from a short rehab assignment

True but he's in a bit of a different situation though. There's no doubting that it is a risk.

Nobody is denying that

Just an odd deal to me... Olivera isn't a prospect given his age, he is an unknown really since no one knows if he will hit MLB yet. Does he come out like Yoenis/Puig on fire and then cool off because he has no idea of strike zone and pitchers start pitching him different, does he struggle the entire time.
I will be tuning into his first game to watch him though.

I agree. Few teams have scouted Olivera more than the BRaves have so I think that's why I'm clinging onto faith here

Who is Gosslin?

The Dodgers received:

Mat Latos, Michael Morse, Jose Peraza, Alex Wood, Jim Johnson, Luis Avilan, and Bronson Arroyo.

They gave up:

Hector Olivera, Paco Rodriguez, Zachary Bird, Kevin Guzman, Jeff Brigham and Victor Araujo, plus the money still owed to Latos, Morse, and Arroyo.

He is combining another deal we made where we took on Arroyo's money.

The book is that he has a much more advanced approach than either of those two. Not as much raw power (maybe 15-20 HR power), but a very good idea of the strike zone and a compact swing.

Exactly. He doesn't k much. Should hit for excellent average. 15 homer pop.
