And Olivera doesn't have a single major league at bat and is a risk for TJ surgery himself, not to mention being on the wrong side of 30. Nobody is arguing that Wood has some question marks, what we are saying is the Olivera has equally as much or more.
The issue is we are giving up JJ and Peraza on top of Wood, for not much at all. That's where the problem comes in.

This entire trade is question marks for both sides outside of Wood so there's really nothing substantial that will come out of this discussion from either side. I think both parties see risk and possibility of reward. Clearly some will see it as a bad move today and some will trust Hart and say it's a smart move. Time will tell the tale as always

Half of Teheran's starts have been unbearable and unwatchable this year so if we deal him now then so be it. He's got a mental block that I'm not sure can be recovered from while he's a Brave.

We're not giving up that much if you don't value Alex Wood and Peraza as highly as our fans do. Alex Wood/ Peraza didn't get Olivera alone for a reason.
We were always going to trade pitching for bats. We were always going to have to throw in more to get bats because that is what the trade market for bats is demanding. That's all I'm saying

Going to say this is false. Hart and company fell in love with a guy in the offseason and did whatever it took to get him.
We know what a young controllable arm with a very productive major league tenure is worth. We know what a top 50 mlb offensive prospect is worth. We've all seen similar players moved and the return they've gotten. And I will say it was always more than a 30 year old hitter that hasn't seen big league pitching and could very well not pan out. I like Olivera, but I don't see how anyone doesn't seem this as a clear overpay of talent.

You could say that it's overpaying but I think it's in line with what the market asks for when acquiring a big bat. Hitting isn't readily available as pitching is right now.
We're going to keep overpaying with pitchers to get the pieces the FO thinks we need. There's a reason why we took 30 more pitchers in the draft this year. It wasn't so that we could have a 10 man rotation.

I think the bottom line is that we aren't necessarily going to agree. I'm not a huge fan of the trade. I just don't think it's as bad as what fans are making it out to be. Reality is that we won't have a grasp on whether this deal is good or bad for another 2-3 years at the earliest.
But I can say for certain that this pattern of trading is what Hart and Coppy are looking to do in the future. Acquire young pitching and trading MLB pitchers is their game plan

We'll know a lot sooner than 2 or 3 years. Olivera has to produce now. He's not getting any younger. We'll see in the coming months what we have in our hands.

If Olivera was about 25, had clean medicals or we had received a different pitching prospect I would feel much better about this.
All 3 being question marks is what makes me hesitant.

Yeah. I was saying we'll know the full value of the trade later down the road.
This season won't prove much. The risk is based on what each FO thinks these players are going to be 2-3 years down the road.
