Why? BJ had lost his starting job and sucked, Kimbrel pitches one inning every three games

I love the fact we got Wisler

It makes sense though. Kimbrel would have had about 25 save opportunities all season in Atlanta. Doesn't make sense to keep a great closer on what looks like it'll be a godawful team.

So what are the Padres going to do in their outfield? This trade doesn't make much sense for them.

If we got rid of Melvin's deal, great trade, even though I will miss Kimbrel just because I liked watching him.

Do they slot him in as the 4th outfielder? I can't see him beating out Will Meyers, Justin Upton, or Matt Kemp (granted, Kemp WILL get injured at some point).

No money changing hand. Mutual optin for Q with a 3 mill buyout for next year if he plays 320 game from '13-15, (He has about 132 in '13 & '14) so he won't reach that. Free agent after this year. Maybin has 8 on his deal for '16 with a 1 mill buyout for '17.

Maybin and Q aren't cheap.

Braves save around 50 mil over the years.

Melvin may be a late inning replacement, or maybe they just release him all together

ZERO. Don't see how you could like this from a SD side long term.

I doubt they release him, that's a lot of money to pay someone to sit at home.

Padre fans cannot cry that Management isn't trying to win or put out a competitive product. They literally bought a team this past off season.

New owner???

They aren't built for the long term, they are 100% in win now mode, and Kimbrel helps them do that.

well they are paying for Melvin, Kemp, Shield, and they just resigned Justin by having Melvin....
I mean Melvin is a horrible contract but Padres are not counting on him to start either.... surprised the Braves got out of his deal without eating any of the contract

Because they're paying a ton of money for basically nothing. I guess they felt they really needed Kimbrel.
